All along I have been burning at 8X without problems of any kind. Now, my last two burns have been at 4X only. To my knowledge, nothing has changed. I'm using the same media, (Memorex DVD-R 8X), the same burner, (Plextor PX-712A), and the same software, (1Click DVD Copy, and DVD 43). The Plextor has the latest firmware, and the software are both the latest versions. This same media has always burned at 8X. So, I ask you, why the sudden drop off to 4X? And if it matters, I'm running XP Pro SP2, P4 3.0MHz, and 2048MB RAM. Thank you!
well, you mentioned the 'magic' word [bold]memorex[/quote] since you say nothing has changed, i would suggest using better media, as memorex is one of the [bold]worst[/bold] media types you can use. try something better, like verbatim, ty, fuji, or maxell. always look on the lables for 'made in japan' with the exception of the verbatim, which say 'made in taiwan' also, if you are burning movies, you should burn at 4x or less anyway, to avoid errors, at 8x, you run higher risks for errors. and the burns you have previously done, may have tons of errors already.. memorex is cmc mag media, rated the worst media available, this site is loaded with info on this media...check this thread out http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/216589 good luck ! also, d/l yourself a media identifier, like this one http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm that way you know what media you have to work with... speed, type, size.... etc
gear79, thanks for the reply. Didn't know I picked such a poor quality product. But I can't help but wonder if Memorex is as bad you say. Up to now I haven't had much in the way of problems with my burns. And this most recent spindle of 50 has been fine up to now, (about half way through). Having said that, in the past I have used Verbatim, and have always liked them. However, a sale caught my eye and that's how I ended up with the Memorex...
sale or not............ ditch the memorex media. you can always buy online too, and more for less = more media for less $$$ try places like http://www.supermediastore.com/verbatim-8x-dvd-plus-r-94968-100.html 100 pack for 23 bucks !!!!! you probabbly spent 20 or so on that 50 pack plus tax...... new egg has media too.... check this link for the memorex media, you will see more in depth on what i am talking about.....this is from my buddy in dvd media section, creaky http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/193298 and check this one too http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/217761 hope this sheds light on your media you have, aka memorex
Carbos5, The big problem with memorex is they buy their media from the lowest bidder. It is not always made by cmag but you never know from batch to batch what you're going to get. You might get a 50 pk made by ritek the first time and think memorex is pretty good media but then the the next 2 spindles you buy are crapola cmc magnetics. Its not worth the gamble. You can use this free proggy to ID your media to check who actually made it. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ Some good online stores to buy quality media such as verbatum and taiyo yuden are supermediastore.com, rima.com, newegg.com, and meritline.com. Yeah, live and learn, guys. Previously I have always used Verbatim discs without any problems. Figured I'd go for the sale and, as is often the case, I'll end up paying more. So, just went to supermediastore and ordered a 50 pack of TY's.
