I've seen that y'all offer a good number of excellent tutorials for converting file types and burning, but is there one you'd recc for selecting the most appropriate type of file to use as the finished project?

I have vids that I don't need for long term use, such as the kids' things, that I'd like to make playable on their DVD player as quickly and economically as possible, but also films and docs that I'd like to keep for a while, and wouldn't mind investing some time/moneyin. I use Nero 6 (full suite) and see lots of options, but am really unsure which would be the best choice.

thanks for taking the time to reply - sorry if I was vague

most of the files are .avi

I'd like to be ale to play the vids on our DVD players, which I believe accomodate mp4...I don't mind investing in good quality DVDs for the things we'd like to keep for ever and ever (and I've had success with converting/burning to DVD using NeroVision Express ) but really don't want to go broke for cartoons, so I was hoping those could be burned onto CD and still play in the stand alone DVD players...the "S VideoCD" option looked promising, but the first time I tried it I had a fail as the file was too large (?)

clearly I need to brush up on file types, and which does what...I scanned the guides, and see quite a few for converting once I've chosen a file type...I was hoping to find something that explained all the options in noob-friendly terms, and to hear what choices more advanced users make and why

thanks for the referral - one question, though...I had some major problems prior to this (and on another pc) with a duel between Roxio and Nero...would I need to uninstall Nero before trying DVDFlick?

a data cd for the avi? well, I can do that already *feels brilliant*

ok then - so I don't really have to do anything to the files...I've never tried them in the player, as a semi-techie friend (who apparently isn't as informed as he thinks he is) said they won't play...I'd been converting everything to DVD, which is time consuming and a little expensive

now I need to go read up on the difference between PAL and NTSC, and how to address audio sync issues *sigh*

    thanks for the help!
