svcd mpg files.. how do i burn onto a dvdr?

    i have lots of movies and tv eries on mpg files as svcd i use to burn them on cdr's but now want to burn on a dvdr as i can fit more on the 1 dics. however programmes like nero that i ise i cant seem to do it when i select dvd it wants vob,iso files etc.. i have ulead dvd workshop which i use to make dvd movies with menus etc.. but the prolem i find with that programme is that it AWLAYS wants to re-ecode the files again even though its been encoded before. and requires like 8 gig or so free spare to burn the movie. any help appriciated
