   I've always used the SVCD format but only just come across the Avi format using DivX.
   what do you consider to be the best quality ?

   Its hard to choose between the two. SVCD is good quality and you can make divx just as good so I really couldnt choose.
   
   However we have to keep in mind that only svcd will work in a stand-alone dvd player
