Hello. Newbie here, with a problem I haven't been able to locate the solution to within the threads.

I purchased a used Xbox off of eBay and it worked well for about six or seven hours and then the hard drive crashed. I'm not a serious gamer, so I wasn't going to Hardmod or Softmod an Xbox unless I got truly hooked on gaming. I figured the easiest solution would be to purchase a used Xbox HDD.

I received the used unlocked Xbox HDD and installed it. At this time I get through the green flubber screen successfully and then I go to the red/green flashing LED and the message to call Xbox customer service.

I have a decent share of PC hardware experience and some software experience as well, but I don't know enough about the Xbox to know exactly what I should do to get it running again. I know from reading various posts that I need to get the HDD locked; I also have read that the HDD serial number doesn't match the Xbox one... Would I have to change that too? Where do I begin? Do I need to mod it now? And if so... How? LOL I know I know look in the FAQs. ;-)

Thanks so much for your advice!

here is the problem the eeprom on the HD you bought dont match the eeprom on your xbox so even though its unlocked it still rejects it...you will need to aquire the eeprom off of your xbox and put it on the other HD....there are a couple of ways to do this 1 is using a modchip the other is using xbox HDM(hard drive manager) and install it using that but you will need to aquire your xbox's original eeprom and that might be a problem....
