I have been having a problem lately with my pc. It has been rebooting on its own and for no apparent reason. I'll be surfing the net or something like that and it just restarts. When it boots back up I get a message that says "system has recovered from a serious error". This has been happening quite a bit lately. Here are the details from the error report: BCCode: 100000ce BCP1 : F0C3195E BCP2 : 00000000 BCP3 : F0C3195E BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1 the following files were included in the error report: C:\Docume_1\Owner\LOCALS_1\temp\WERf381.dir00\mini100906-02.dmp C:\Docume_1\Owner\LOCALS_1\Temp\WERf381.dir00\sysdata.xml Any help in fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thx in advance!!
Hello ackerst, if computer crashes while try to download programs boot in "Safe Mode with Networking". Press F8 upon boot, select "Safe Mode with Networking" and press Enter. Go here and download [bold]ATF Cleaner[/bold]. Close all windows. Open AFT Cleaner. Check "Select All". Click "Empty Selected" Download HijackThis (click the name). Create a folder in C: named HjT. Extract the files to the new folder. Open HijackThis.exe and "Do a system scan and save a log file". Post that log in your next reply.

...Another problem I've been noticing aside from my pc rebooting on its own is I'll get a message quite frequently that says "windows explorer has encountered an error and needs to close". When I click ok everything on the screen disappears for a few seconds then comes back except anything I had open be4 is now closed. Not sure if this problem has anything to do with the other but in any case, thought I'd share it. Thank you again for your help!!!
Download "018RegFix" to your desktop from here. You will use it later. Go here to download the trial version of AVG Anti-spyware. Install and update. Do not run a scan yet, will later in safe mode. Run a scan only with HijackThis, check these(if there): [bold]R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customiz...rch/search.html R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customiz...//www.yahoo.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customiz...//www.yahoo.com R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customiz...rch/search.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customiz...//www.yahoo.com R3 - URLSearchHook: {EA551C00-2AE5-11d3-8592-00A0C98E9EA4} - - (no file) O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE [/bold] Close all windows except HijackThis, then click "Fix checked" Close HijackThis. Unzip 018RegFix to the desktop. Open the reg file. Click OK to merge it with your registry. Restart your computer in safe mode(press F8 upon boot, select "Safe Mode" from menu and press Enter). Open AVG AS and click "Scanner". Click "Complete System Scan". When it finishes scanning, set all items to "Quarantine". Click "Apply All Actions". Click "Save Report". Click "Save report as" and save it to the desktop. Restart in normal mode. Post back with the AVG report and a new HijackThis log.
Ok I'm haven all sorts of problems now. For some reason I can't seem to boot up in safe mode. When I click "boot in safe mode" the list of drivers and everything comes up on the screen but then it just sits there and windows never boots up. I let it sit for a whole hour and it never booted up. I tried 3 times. So then I just tried doing the AVG scan in regular mode but my computer always restarts be4 the scan can finish. I don't know what to do. Any ideas as to why I can't boot in safe mode?? Thanks for your help!
Download [bold]BootSafe[/bold] and see if this can help you get into safe mode: http://superadblocker.com/bootsafe.html

COuld this maybe be the case? Thanks very much!!

You ignored the items found. Go to Add/Remove Programs and uninstall(if there): [bold]RXToolBar[/bold] Delete the folder: C:\Program Files\[bold]RXToolBar[/bold] Then, run AVG AS again. This time make sure you set all items to "Quarantine" then click "Apply all actions". Post back with a new HijackThis log.
I did quarintine the files after I posted the log and the file rxtoolbar no longer exists in my program files so I think I managed to get rid of it. You don't post what OS you have or hardware installed such as memory. I had a similar problem once and all it was, was a bad memory stick. From looking at the HJT log, you could also have some software conflicts between Norton/Bitdefender/Spyware doctor/Privacy expert/ and a couple of others. Those things take a lot of memory also, so you are not running at least a gig it could cause memory resource loss when surfing the internet. What gives me this impression is the files you listed in the initial error, the .dmp and .xml. The failure to boot at times makes me think it is just a bad memory stick. I'm not an expert by any means, just someone who has had some of the same problems as any regular computer user.
I tried uninstalling norton a long time ago but somehow there are still norton files lingering all over my computer and I can't seem to get rid of all of them. F'n Norton!! Anyways, I have uninstalled spyware doctor successfully (i think) and so now all I have is bitdefender and acronis. Any ideas as to how I can gid rid of all the norton files on my computer? I've went to add/remove programs and tried but the option to uninstall is not listed next to Norton. And there's nothing listed for Norton or symantec in program files. Thanks very much!!
Looking at your most recent post with running processes still lists Norton's LiveUpDate. exe which is a separate listing in Add/Remove programs. The files left from Norton would have to be deleted manually in explorer as well as the registry, but they shouldn't cause a problem if the program is uninstalled. What about your memory?
How can I tell if somethen is wrong with my memory? Sorry if that's a dumb question but I really have no idea. Thanks!!
ackerst: Try this tool to help you uninstall Norton: [bold]Norton Removal Tool[/bold] http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4749 To see your memory's conditions, try this program. Follow the instructions, carefully: [bold]Memtest[/bold] http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=350
