Hello all, I was wondering where i can get a good system optimizer, my pc is getting full, (120 g) with a 512 mb RAM, running windows XP. I thought I heard of one recommended by Leo LaPorte on G4 but I can't remember the name of it. definitely, my system could use a little speed boost. Thanx all, D33BO
Try this, used it many times and works perfectly! http://www.tune-up.com/products/tuneup-utilities/ [bold]Features[/bold]
Keep in mind, that though some of those programs work as published...(and I am not knocking them)..a program that runs in memory to optimize memory...isn't helping any... AND!!, it's yet another program to install taking up hard drive space. Some of these programs are really good to get rid of all the crap that builds up in temp folders, but to get a good feeling of how well you've succeeded in restoring youth to the machine..is to get your hands dirty and learn to tweak the system and remove the files manually. I looked at that program Dragon posted, and had to wonder about a few things: (sincerely, this isn't about you Dragon, so please, no offense) Corrects up to 400% more errors?? What errors? Optimize Firefox? Firetune does that for free. Automatically scans the system to find things that slow it down.....(yeah, like automatic scanning programs?) Let's you take control of the system startup process. You mean MSCONFIG? Removes unneeded ballast from the disks? What ballast? Confusing terms since the word ballast refers to tanks used on large ships to balance the ship in rough seas. Deframents the registry.... What? a 50MB file? (mine sits at or around 70) Oh..yeah, this caught my eye. Recovers accidentally deleted files.....Ok, but what if you used the "Deletes Sensitive Data Permanently" feature?? Which is which? How is it removed permanently if you can recover them? (you can't actually) Frees up system RAM (but yet runs in memory to optimize the system). Speeds up your internet connection? I'd have to laugh here....cuz only your internet provider can do that. This program isn't going to boost your 1.5Mbps DSL to 3.0. So you see...you have to really be careful about system optimizing programs. They do do what they say, but they also do what you're looking to "not do". Free cleanup utilities: RegSeeker CCLeaner You can also use those programs to not only clean the registry, but remove the leftover entries in the index.dat files that are left behind even using IE's "Delete temporary files" feature. Unless manually configured, your temp folders are: Documents and Settings\(username)\Local Settings\Temp and, Windows\Temp.
