I am working on a audio file that I recorded from tape. I was wondering if anyone knew a good program that is free and has the ability to clean up audio files. I would like to remove the background tape hiss and make this file sound as good as possible since it is not a professional recording. Thanks
I tried just about every free program there is to minimise tape hiss but was not happy with the results from any of them. If you do your testing and come up with the same conclusion, I recommend you obtain a tryout version of Steinberg Clean. This is the program I use pretty much exclusively now for recording vinyl's and tapes. Mine is an early version and I understand it is now marketed by Pinnacle. A bit og googleing will find it. Well worth the money if you're doing a lot of this like me.
