Help. I have the Time Monster PC with the wretched Matsushita SW-9581. I have the Reload disk too. Last night, I reloaded, took Pinnacle 7 off, put Nero Express 6 on and placed in a blank TDK DVD-RW. Nero doesn't even recongise it!? I put one of my Packard Bell DVD-Rs in. Nero doesn't recognise this either! But. Here's the weird thing. I used Ulead Videostudio 7 to burn some home skateboarding footage and the Packard Bell DVD-R media burns successfully and even plays on my home DVD player. But, when I put the DVD-R back in my DVD burner drive - it doesn't recognise it: Nero still tells me there's no disk in the drive. Can anyone help. And why did the TDK-RW not work as recommended?
Who recommended RW's? They're more expensive, but it's good to have a couple Jus keep it simple, what is your system specs. And what do you mean reloaded?? Why can't you have both, and do you mean Nero 6 Ultra? And shouldn't this thread be in DVD+/-R Drives?
Okay. I apologise that this thread is in the wrong place. Fairly desperate and tried a number of different forums to post this message! All you need to know about the PC is as follows: AMD Athalon 2.6ghz 1 Gig RAM 160 gig hard drive DVD ROM Matsushita SW-9581 DVD Multi Drive (burner) Windows XP Home ...and I purchased it from Time. The 'Reload' disk is a CD that Time provided which puts the PC back in an 'as manufactured' state. The CD contains all the software (XP, Pinnacle 7) under 'Time' branding - so I do not have the originals per se. I am told in one of the forums that TDK-RWs work perfectly with the SW-9581 (which has a history of problems!) The version of Nero is simply Nero 6 Express. I took Pinnacle 7 off because it really is useless - and I thought it might conflict with Nero. Besides, I've tried it with both (Nero and Pinnacle) on the system and it still doesn't work. I just cannot understand how people with the same PC as me should get a certain brand working and I have no success. Tried again this morning. Nero does not recognise that a CD has been put in when I put either a TDK DVD-RW or the Packard Bell DVD-R. I just do not understand.
Did you post this question more than once in Afterdawn? Things you could try: 1) Make your burner your master drive, and make your dvd-rom the slave. 2) Update your aspi layer 3) Re-install Nero 4) Update your burner's firmware
How do I update my aspi layer? (thank you for taking the time to help me with this!) How do I do the slave/master change!? Just FYI I am an IT professional - but as a programmer; not a hardware specialist!
Nephilim, This is from Adaptec's website. http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/su...no&filekey=aspi_471a2.exe&language=English+US This is how I install it, and this is what I get: ASPI32.SYS 4.71.2 WOWPOST.EXE Not Installed WINASPI.DLL Not Installed WNASPI32.DLL 4.71.2 Now, the link that you provided says this is installed wrong... but this is how Adaptec explains how to install. Mine seems to work, and I know yours is installed the other way and works. This is why I recommend ForceASPI now
rybes, Open your PC. You'll have to disconnect both drives. Then put your dvd-burner on top and connect it to the first connector on that ide cable(you'll also have to switch the jumper on the back from slave to master). Then connect the dvd-rom to the second connector on the same ide cable(you'll also have to switch this jumper from master to slave).
When you have the drives out of the PC you'll see on the back where it says "Master" and where it says "Slave," - Although this was put at the bottom in brackets it is the most important thing you'll be doing - It's not hard and you can't screw anything up - it's not fragile, it's just a piece of a machine, you'll do fine - Enjoy, Pete Sea Yaaaaaaaaaaa
