Hi peeps, ive just bought new TDK+R DVDS, the problem is ive downloaded films i need put onto disk but hey aint playing back on my DVD, ive tried several burning tools and they all convert and burn successfully (i used converttodvd,WINAVI,VSO DIVXTODVD, they all worked as usual, but for some reason these discs wont playback on my standalone dvd or even my pc, ive tried lowering the speed to x4 but still nothing! i think its the media but how can one tell? ive used vso inspector and it gives the disc info etc and lists the speeed as x2, x4 hence the reason i reduced the write speed, you can phisically see that the disc has been burned, so iam running out of options! ive prison break s3 ep2 to watch and it wont playback! any help would be grately appreciated ... many thanks Mark!!
If you have sucessfully made backups with other media, then your current media spindle could be shite. TDK have a reasonable reputation......not to be confused with a great reputation. I've used TDK's for a while, and since being shown the error of my ways, have now been converted to Verbatim. The TDK type that I used, (see pic above) have seldom given me worry. The problem is WHERE they are made and the quality controls that are employed to ensure top notch results. Here in Australia, I've noticed a recent influx of reputable named media such as SONY and Hewlett Packard, i've given these a wide birth as even some store employees have quoted that these discs are shite also. So where do we go from here?...... it's often difficult to obtain made only in japan (MIJ), there is the solution of buying ON-LINE but i'm a wuss in this regard. If i may say that if you purchase older stocks of TDK or Verbatim, your results might be a little more positive. There's also the chance that your optical drive, might need a firmware upgrade. Hope this helps out some. Cheers.
thanks for that! the thing thats confusing me is that i can see it burned onto the disc and it looks absolutley fine, ive got a goodmans dvd recorder and it has played everything ive backed up / used up until now, r u suggesting its just the media type iam using! sorry iam a bit off the pace with these things! what firmware updates would i need? thanks again Mark
G'day Mark, yes it could be not only the media type... but the actual batch also. Using top notch media can also bring grief, as there is the possibility of a bad press. To eliminate the spindle you have, use a disc of the same brand but a different batch. If you use a +R format then use a -R format disc, this also could make the difference. Cheers.
Hi onya, thanks for the advice m8! will revert back to a media type i know that works, the TDK records in my dvd recorder but i get disc error when i stop recording (during closing disc stage) so ive got a feeling its the media type! will let you know how i go onya thanks again Mark
