i am sick of researcing. i want to play. i hard moded a couple x3's to some xbox's in the past including a version 1.6, i play xlink, moded halo maps in the past so im not a total noob. but im not getting into it again w/ the ds. 5 hrs of research is all i got in me this time. i want to know the best mod/flash cart w/e to get that will emulate the most systems the fastest and with the most room for storage.i would like it to be 8 gb's around and no hastle. i want to listen to music and watch movies and play comerc NDS roms. i dont need any debug stuff.just wana play. i dont want to learn. please tell me the most capable device. and the best memory cards
Sounds like you want an M3, it is the best of all devices, it can play 99% of all DS and GBA games with no slowdown or other problems. Considerig you want a very large amount of storage (8GB) I would say get the CF version as Compact Flash is the cheaper storage, and is the only one I know to go to 8GB, but this will stick out from the DS and stick out even more from a DS Lite. If you want it to fit in the DS/DS Lite perfectly you will have to sacrfice your storage, you can get a M3 MiniSD + 4GB MiniSD card for the original DS, or a M3 Lite + 2GB MicroSD for a DS Lite. You will also need a passcard3 for the M3's to do anything DS related (otherwise your stuck with GBA only stuff). EDIT: Turns out you can now gt 4GB Mini SD cards and 2GB MicroSD cards, so i have updated accordingly.
thank you varymuch. so im to understand that i may use a micro or mini sd for a NDS light? either will work? or will the mini not fit in the light? howmuch space in on the the m3 cart? i know that the DS-extreme http://www.mod-chip.com/en/ds-extreme.php has 4gb rite on the cart. so if i had that much room and got a 2 gb sd card i would be rockn 6 gb. i quess to say i have a ds light and want the most storage posable wile being minimal in profile(nothing sticking out) is my situation. can i get a passcard 3 with room to store as well? like a 2 gb sd mem card and a 2 gb passcard3 and a 4 gb cart and theres my 8 gbs?
The Mini version will work on the Lite, but will stick out of the port. The M3 has 32MB of onboard RAM, but this cannot be used as perment storage, the M3 relies on the media cards for storage. (the DS-X does not use media cards, so is stuck at 4Gb=512MB) Wrong, you would have 2.5GB - the DS-X storage is measured in bits not bytes so 4 Gigabits is only 512 Megabytes, SD and CF cards are measured in bytes, so a 2 Gigabyte card is the equivilent to 16 Gigabits You cannot get a Passcard3 with any storage though I think there might be a device which has. As for profile, the smaller you go the less memory you get and the more you have to pay, so it's your choice.
what if i flash my DS and dont need a pass key. can i then use both ports and have 2 2gb cards in each? or even 4gb mini's. i would think so. and what are the disadvantages to flashing the actual DS? does it have to be a Passcard3 or can it be a diff brand that does the same thing with storage capabilities? i think thats what u are saying. just not clear. thanx again
Currently you can only have one thing in either port, I do not know any devices that can communictae between each other fully in both prts, so keep it simple and only use one storage device (the M3) and one Pass device (the Passcard3) You can flash your DS, but you will still need to buy a Passcard3 to be able to flash it. Disadvantages to flashing are that it voids yor warrenty, small chance of bricking the DS (if you mess up) and if installed on the Ds Lite it cannot be removed. It dosn't have to be a Passcard3, however other brands cannot guarentee compatibility with the M3, and also the ones with storage either won't have the storage used by the M3, or won't act as a Pass device (which is what you need) So as I said keep it simple and get a Passcard3 and an M3, you can buy other things afer you have the basics working.
