I am looking to buy a dvd writer but it says can write to DVD+R and DVD+RW. What does the plus mean and why is it not DVD-R and DVD-RW
different types of media. Like Beta and VHS but not as extreme a difference. Some players may be compatable with both but compatability is deffinitely an issue. If you are copying for a DVD player you need to search for compatability...I think DVD-r is the most easily compatable with stand alone players
dvd r stands for dvd recordable and dvd rw stands for dvd rewrittable.. this means you can record to a dvd r only 1 time, where as a dvd rw you can rewrite over the data more then 1 time..
Here's a useful link if you want to know more about +r/-r. I don't suggest you to buy a burner that only burn +r/+rw. If you can't afford a Sony DRU that support both +r/-r you should choose a burner that support only -r/-rw instead of +r/+RW http://lib1.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/lib/meritline/WhatisDVDR.pdf

I have the HP200i DVD+r/+rw 2,4x speed. Copied PS2 games and DVD movies onto DVD+r and DVD+rw. Works fine burning with Nero and other progs. I use Platinum DVD+r and +rw. The HP writer is expensive ! The newest HP writer is the HP300i DVD+r/+rw and can write at 4x speed.
Is there a DVD Recorder or DVD Burner on the market yet that records and plays both formats (DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-R, and DVD-RW)? I am looking to buy a DVD Recorder but don't want to buy one that only records one type of format and then be stuck with it when technology moves on (like what happened to Beta). Does anyone here know if there is a DVD Recorder on the market that records to all format types? Thanks in advance!
Yeah , it's been mentioned above (twice)LOL The Sony DRU 500 will burn on both formats DVD+R/RW - VBR (Variable Bit Rate) DVD-R/RW - CBR (Constant Bit Rate)
The Sony DRU 500 will burn on both formats as a DVD Burner but is there a DVD Recorder currently out on the market that can record on both formats? I would be more interested in a DVD Recorder over a DVD Burner.
Hey herbsman, I am asking if there is a DVD recorder on the market that can record onto both formats (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW). I know that the Sony DRU 500 can burn on both formats but that is a DVD Burner, is there an actualy DVD Recorder (like a DVD player) that can burn on both formats?
