Please help. I cannot boot up my Windows XP systemon my computer now. It says that C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM is missing or corrupt. It isn't missing because with my XP CD i've gotten into the repair console and found it in the specified directory. I want to copy it the XP CD or someone else PC and overwrite it to fix the problem. Where I try to get it off another computer I can't copy it because it's always running and it won't let me copy. Where is it on the XP CD then? Or is there another way of going about this without restoring my system? Thank you
You could try a Repair with the XP CD... 1. Insert XP disc and boot from it on startup.... 2. Let setup load... 3. Press enter 4. Press F8 5. See if Setup detects a current install, if it does then... 6. Press R for repair This will just overwrite the main operating system files and hopefully solve your problem : )
