Hi, I understand that the new version of AnyDVD will copy blu ray discs, and that the new version of Nero will burn blu-ray. I get that I need a blank blu-ray disc to burn them onto, and a blu-ray player to play it on. What I'm unsure of, before I embark down this path, is do I need a blu-ray burner in my computer? Will by dvd burner be able to burn the blu-ray files onto the blu-ray disc? Thanks a bunch !
I'm not so sure about AnyDVD being able to copy blu ray disks, I don't know if the AACS (copywrite protection) has been broken yet. But I can answer your general questions. 1) Yes, you will need a blu-ray burner to play and write blu-rays 2) DVD won't burn blu-rays because the laser is thicker on a DVD, while the blu-ray laser, is thinner, making it able to write more data on the a disk the size of a DVD.
Hey thanks for the reply. I was pretty sure, but wanted to confirm before buying all this stuff. Yes, the AnyDVD I have can copy HDDVD and Blu-ray, or so they say So I guess I'll see. What about blu ray dowloaded torrent files? I'm so used to .avi's, I don't even know what a blu-ray file extension would be. How the hell do you burn those? Thanks.
The main A/V file in the BD structure is m2ts, mkv is just a container that can handle all sorts of raw A/V streams, unlimited as well. There are applications that can take a mkv and convert it to the Blu-Ray structure so it can be burned to DVD5/9, or BD25/50. If you are interested there is a program called tsMuxeR, you can download it from the first stickied thread in this forum. In there you will also find a wealth of information regarding this topic. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/639346 BTW, if you have a HD mkv you do not need a Blu Ray burner to make a high definition disc, you can use the above mentioned software, along with whatever burning software to make a AVCHD DVD... for playback on a PS3 or Blu-Ray player, which has the same structure as Blu-Ray, just on a DVD. There is a how-to in the above link as well. AnyDVDHD can decrypt AACS, there is also a program called Blu-Ray Disc Ripper that can rip BDs, although other decrypting applications are required as well. By far AnyDVDHD is your easiest solution.
yes, you can rip a Blu-Ray disc to your hard drive with anydvdhd then burn it onto a blank BD-R with Nero. But, it would be a 1 to 1 copy, i.e. if your original movie is on a dual layer (50GB) disc you will need a dual layer blank disc (aka $$$$$$$) Single layer to single layer copies work just fine, I've done a few
Thank you all for the replies, it will help alot. The blank BD-R are quite expensive so I don't want to screw up too much or I'll be in the poorhouse. Thanks.
