Hey guys just a few questions since I know there are alot of brits on this site. I've been watching the new episodes of Doctor Who on the SciFi channel here in the Southeast US. Just wanted to know what season you guys are up to over there. I hope I'm not the only american that is glad to see this kick ass show come back and hope that it stays around this time. I also wanted to know if the current Doctor is suppose to be the same one from that movie that was made in the 90's or if he regenerated since then (the current one is tons better. Not to mention Rose is a cutie pie. I know this is a stupid question to post on here but you guys are always a ton of help with everything else.

Dr Who was revatalised by the BBC last year, with Christopher Eccleston. He quit after the first series, to be replaced by David Tennant. Neither of which were in the movie (not sure of the name) in the '90s.

I was really miffed when Eccleston quit, he made a really good Doctor, apparently he didn't want to be typecast. David Tennant has taken over & is also very good. I was amazed that Billie Piper was cast as the new assistant!
I really wanted to hate the new Doctor Who, funnily enough, as I thought that would be rubbish (My favourite Doctor was John Pertwee & Katy Manning was an excellent & gorgeous assistant!)
I was to be greatly dissapointed, as I think that Russell Davies has done a really good job with the writing, (Mark Gatiss, of The League of Gentlemen fame - an amazingly dark & funny British comedy - has written a few episodes) Eccleston made an excellent Doctor & Billie Piper is a really good assistant.
All in all, the programme has made a terrific (albeit surprise!) hit in the UK. The writing is great, the characters are very strong & the effects are brilliant. I just hope that they continue to make the show stronger & stronger.
The biggest surprise for me was Billies' acting, she was a singer a few years ago, she has settled into the role with consummate ease. I am really glad I was wrong!
I am glad that you like it, it's nice to see British programmes being accepted in the US.

Yeah, the season finale for season one is next week but I had read that Eccleston's doctor was killed off (he was excellent by the way) and that kinda bothered me. I was just wondering how far they actually were over there in the new seasons. I started watching when I was a kid with the 4th & 5th doctors and tried to catch as many episodes as I could but the only channel that played them back then was PBS. Baker and McCoy are the only ones I've watched all the way through. I liked them all and can't wait to see more episodes. I just hope they don't cancel it again. I've always liked scifi like Star Trek and Farscape, but Doctor Who has always been my favorite. Thanks for the reply!

We're about half way through the second series, David tennant makes quite a good Doctor & Billie just goes from strength to strength.
I like Doctor Who as it lets your imagination runaway with you, the problem I have found with some American Sci-fi is that there is usually a moral story underlying. Star Trek Next Generation is the best of all the spin offs. Looking at it now though it can be a corny, esp with Troi "sensing" peoples' feelings etc.
Time travel ramifications are my favourite story lines.

Was Tom Baker in the old Dr. Who? I think I saw every episode but don't remember names very well....that show reminded me of our "Dark Shadows" if only in that silly low-budget sort of way. Haven't seen the new one yet; are they showing it in the states?

Ah yes...thanks Box. Actually, I remember what he looked like; it's names I can never remember! LOL! I use to watch it all the time; even my dad (who didn't speak much english) got a kick out of it because it was so cheesy!

oops...edit that: I didn't even remember there were two. I guess I'm not particularly with it today lol!

It used to be aired here every Sunday night on PBS and sometimes they would go thru the whole series from episode 1 thru to the end, starting with the first Doctor. I would never miss an episode if I could help it.I hear the show is now running on the Sci-Fi channel,I'll let you know if I can find more info.

Gerry, there were more than two,I think the Dr. has had seven regenerations so far.
