SONY DWD26A 16x DVD±R/RW+ USB 2.0 EXTERNAL CASE KIT has anyone come across this problem: this burner has been working just fine for me until lately. what happens now is when i plut the usb cord into my computer, it gives me the message of "this device can perform faster". i have a pc and a laptop, and it's doing it on both of them. i did not get that message from either machine before. i've tried updating the driver, but it tells me that i have the latest driver. i just don't get it. the negative effects are that it's actually not performing as it should now. the DVDs it burns now do not play that well anymore on either of my computers or on my standalone. i keep getting burning errors now, too. it won't even play DVDs now... it plays them all choppy. i just don't get it. i haven't done anything different. it just stopped working. any ideas?
its only detecting your usb ports as USB 1 not UsB 2 go to your device manager and remove all the usb devices and let windows reinstall them on reboot are you sure both your machines have USB 2 ? click on the device can perform faster message and see if any USB 2 ports are listed ? check for unkown devices in your device manager after usb reinstall ? post back with the results
philraz i'm sure that they both have usb 2.0 ports. i know this because my other devices that are 2.0 work fine and the computers do not give me the "this device can perform faster" message. it's only with my DVD burner. knowing that information, should i still delete the ports? if so, how do i do that? thanks!
bilbo! so simple, yet so genius. i got a new usb cable, and "voila", we're back in business. thanks! tom
