this is probably so simple I am embarrassed to ask

I want to burn full movies that I have downloaded so I can play them on my dvd player. I have done this using Nero 7, but the program is crashing on my, I have tried to reinstall and it tells me I am missing some shelldatabse file, and won't let me install anything. I downloaded TMPGEnc and have encoded a couple movies. I have downloaded CDBurnXP but when I burned the file that I transcoded it will not play on any of my dvd players (ones that would play previously done movies on Nero. Am I missing a step in the burn process. TMP output says the file is encoding in MPEG-2 format. How can I be sure it is once it is finished transcoding? And what is this about authoring? Do I need to worry about this, or do I just burn the transcoded files as is? Is ISO an issue?

Sorry about the long question for such a simple problem,

    thank you in advance,

    Loach

Once you have encoded the file using TMPGEnc, you will have to author it (TMPGEnc DVD Author, DVD Lab, Ulead MovieFactory, etc). Nero won't require this step. MPEG 1 is VCD and MPEG 2 is SVCD, DVD compliant and an ISO is just an image file you can burn to CD, DVD. If you are trialling TMPGEnc, here is a program that will take you from your file to a burned DVD and it is far faster:http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/vso_convertxtodvd_guide.cfm The trial will insert a watermark in your video and burns at half speed.

    Thanks for your help.

I have the full version of TMPGEnc. Do you or anybody else know how I "author" the file after I have encoded it using TMPGEnc?

Use any of the programs I named to author. I use Ulead but TMPGEnc DVD Author may be your best bet as they may combine both programs in a single package or give you a deal. Here is a basic guide from the guides section and I am sure there are others here and around the web:http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/tmpgenc_dvd_author_guide.cfm
