Ok, so I am new to backing up dvds and thought I would do some research before I got started and came across this awesome forum. I have read over many threads and replies and believe I have confused myself with what I should do. The only software I currently have installed is Nero 6.0, which of course will not allow me to backup copy protected dvds. I am using a DVD+R drive. I found this link, http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/Guides/alkohol_guide1.html , in one of the replies, but there is no mention of Nero. I was wondering if it is possible to use any of this free software in conjunction with Nero to successfully backup copy protected dvds or if I should eliminate Nero from the equation all together. I am interested in the easiest and most inexpensive way to do this. I really do not want to pay for additional software unless I have to. Any help that anyone can offer is greatly appreciated!
If you are using Nero 6, then update your version to this one, 6.6.0.18 (both Packages)...it has Nero Recode which is used for backing up movies. Package 1: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.exe Package 2: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/NVE-3.1.0.21_no_yt.exe You will need something to overcome the copy protection so I suggest you download the trial version of AnyDVD (available for 21 days)....from here http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html?aid=50022 Just have AnyDVD running when you use Nero Recode...use either of the first 2 options in Recode. Now there is also another way using ALL freeware, it's in my sig New RipIt4Me + DVD Shrink + ImgBurn guid <==== Rip any DVDs http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/422740
Hey Gwendolyn - Thanks for your fast response. I just checked and I currently have installed Nero Express version 6.6.0.19 and NeroVision Express version 3.1.0.14. Are these versions ok or do I need to install the ones you recommended? Also, if I choose to use the combo of AnyDVD and Nero, do I not need to use DVD Shrink? Thanks again for your help!
Package 2 contains Nero recode...you can still use Shrink but it's not necessary with Recode and AnyDVD
Hey Gwendolyn - I just wanted to come back and say sorry for not saying thanks. I was able to successfully back up my dvds. Thanks for your help. It was greatly appreciated.
