I have read the other threads about this and it still isn't seeming to work. I have a D-Link DL-524 router, and have forwarded ports 5500, 5800, and 5900 to the internal IP of the computer running both TightVNC and UltraVNC. And when I try to access it, the program says it cannot find the IP. Any ideas?
Quick question... Are you trying to access it from within your own network (LAN) or remotely? Also, are you getting the error message on Internet browser or the VNC viewer? Make sure to include the port # as part of the address when trying to connect: From LAN: 192.168.1.100:5900 (This is only an example; replace) Internet: 123.12.456.78:5900 (This is only an example; replace) Remember, you have to open the ports on the router but also don't forget to FORWARD the ports as well. 1) Make sure the PC has a static IP address. 2) Open & forward the ports on your router to that IP. 3) If you are behind a firewall, make sure to open these ports as well. Try this guide: http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DI-524/Tight_VNC.htm Couldn't find a model DL-5247 so I assumed you meant DI-524.
i have the ports forwarded with my linksys easily but when i try to use the dl-524 i cant get the ports forwarded using http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DI-524/VNC.htm because it asks for something to be put into the private ip box. Any idea why or what that is about?
yes. i got it working i had to use xx.xxx.xx.xxx:5900 in chicken of the vnc instead of just the ip like in windows remote desktop.
