TMpegEnc Converting .avi mpeg-2 and preparing for DVD LAB PRO!, Time to create some professional DVDs! ^_-

Okay, I've been using WinAVI to create my DVDs to play on DVD players all this time. Simple and fast!

Now it's time to learn something more advanced. I discovered DVD Lab Pro and it's possible to create DVDs with complex menus, multiple audio, multiple subtitle tracks and all that AWESOME stuff.

Well... I know it's not really necessary but I feel good when I understand how a DVD works better.

Okay, from what I understand so far... DVD Lab Pro doesn't convert your .avi for you.
So you gotta convert your videos to mpeg-2 before you bring them into DVD Lab Pro.
I downloaded TMPegEnc and it has the option to let you convert to mpeg-2.

I have no idea where to start...but here are some of my questions:

What settings in TMPegEnc do I use when converting my video to mpeg-2?
For example, say I want to fit 4 700MB K-Drama episodes onto a DVD... How would I control the size, quality, etc.

I want to use subtitles in DVD Lab Pro so that you can turn them on and off when you are watching on a DVD Player. Do .srt files need to be converted to anything before being used in DVD Lab Pro?

What else do you need to do for your videos to prepare them for the world of DVD Lab Pro? Tell me everything! I think preparing all the videos for DVD Lab is actually more complicated than actually using DVD Lab...

your best point to start with tmpeg is to use the wirzards as you get more experienced with it start to use the manual settings these will allow you to resize, crop deinterlace etc. using the filters dont worry about size at this point, Oh for dvdlab select output to elementery streams in the last window of the wizard
*.srt files are compatable with dvdlab so they should import with no changes
Now as for size after your compile in dvdlab if your video Ts folder is larger than 43,000mb I would grab DVD shrink and run your movie thru it will make the necesry compression

 

Add up the total running time of the 4 videos.
Use a bitrate calculator so they fit on a disk after encoding http://www.videohelp.com/calc

Make sure all 4 videos are encoded exactly the same aspect ratio and framerate for your location (PAL or NTSC).
Have tmpgenc output them "ES" elementary video and audio.
Import video, audio, and srt into dvdlab.

I have a question.

I'm using FFMPEGGUI to get the .AC3 sound file.
When I try browsing for the video, I can't see the .M2V file but I can see my original .AVI file.

Which file am I suppose to use to get the sound from?
Do I use the .M2V or the original .AVI?

 

Oh wait...
for some reason, the first time I converted.. It came out as a .m2v instead of a .mpg

I'll try again haha it's coming out as .mpg this time.

 

One of my subtite .srt files are acting weird when I import it into DVD lab! For example, it says "at 03:02 the subtitles overlap do you want to fix it?" and if I push okay to it all it gets an error at the end.

I tried with another drama and it worked... =( Can someone help?
