Ok so I managed to burn a movie downloaded off of the net (p2p KaZaA Lite) to dvd using the above softwares, the size of the file I downloaded was around 650MB, 1 Hour and 22 Minutes with a resolution of 720x480. I encoded the .avi file, made a menu and burned it to DVD using TMPGEnc and TMPGEnc Author but it plays pretty crappy, when I'am watching the movie it looks more computerised than anything else but is watchable, it was orginally a DVD Rip so I dunno if I have done anything wrong or is this normal? I was watching on a 16:9 widescreen, could this be the reason? And also what is 16:9 Widescreen in Resolution? Thanks. Danzig.
Hiya Danzig, Downloaded a DVD-RIP eh! Don't know if you should be helped, encouraging "Copyright Violations" and all.... Shame on you... WARNING: This is a long process for not a lot of quality improvement, GO BUY THE DVD, it is quicker & easier. What you will need is, at MINIMUM: Decent O/S, Win2000 Pro or XP LOTS of hard drive space (could be 100 GIGS plus !!!) ffdshow codec pack DivX 551 codec pack 3ivX 445 codec pack Micro$haft media player 9 CODEC pack GSpot VirtualDub TMPGEnc TMPG DVD Author LOTS OF TIME (it all has to be done manually, not easy) You STILL want to go ahead? OK... 1 - Install ALL the codecs, restart 2 - Use GSpot, check render the file to make sure it can be demuxed. 3 - Use VirtualDub to extract WAV 4 - Use VirtualDub to create AVI (WARNING: 1 GIG per minute of film, I said you would need space!!!) 5 - Use TMPGEnc with DVD template 6 - create a 5 minutes test mpeg, selecting a particularly bad part of the film. 7 - Tweak the setting/filters etc to get best settings 8 - repeat steps 6 & 7 until best quality achieved 9 - calculate average bitrate, set for VBR 2-pass, run. 10 - pass resultant mpeg through Authoring etc. etc. Are you really prepared to undertake DAYS of processing, HOURS and HOURS of fiddling with settings etc AND LOTS of disk space, just to get a SMALL IMPROVEMENT IN QUALITY (come on, 1hr 22mins in 650 Meg is NOT ON, you CANNOT expect quality) Do yourself a favour, save the time, hassle & frustration, GO BUY THE DVD.... DISCLAIMER: I [bold]DO NOT[/bold] CONDONE ANY FORMS OF "COPYRIGHT VIOLATION", THIS POST IS INTENDED TO HIGHLIGHT THE ALMOST COMPLETE WASTE OF RESOURCES ENTAILED IN ATTEMPTING TO ACHIEVE THE THREAD ORIGINATORS STATED AIM. IT IS AN ATTEMPT TO [bold]DISSUADE[/bold] SUCH. Have Fun... _X_X_X_X_X_[small]Life is just more of the same:[/small]
