I get the error (can not open, or unsupported) on some of my AVI files.
but some of them open fine in TMPGEnc. All AVI files made from my edits in Premiere 6.5 seem to not open. but the AVI's directly from my camera open and convert no problem.

    Thanks
    Craig

Try this, Go to "options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "Vfapi plugins" and Raise the Priority of the "Direct Show File Reader" to "2", This should get those Files Loaded that is if you are useing a Direct show DV Codec, If you are Useing a VFW DV codec you can try raiseing the "AVI VFW Compatibility Reader" to "1" and disableing the "Direct show"..Good Luck

PS: Tmpgenc seems to Like either the "Microsoft DV Codec" or older VFW Type 2 codecs Like the "Mainconcept DV Codec" or "Panasonic DV Codec" or "Sony DV" and even the "Canopus DV Codec" has worked well for me with Tmpgenc..But it does not seem to like Proprietary Codecs Like the Ones that come with "Pinnacle" Products....Cheers

Wow ! Thanks that solved the problem. I raised the Priority of the "Direct Show File Reader" to "2" and all is well. How do I tell what codec I am using?

    Thank you very much !

Well when you Render your Project to AVI in your DV Capture/Editing Program you should have a Choice of codecs to use in the Rendering settings..Or if you download "GSpot" it will tell you what codec was used on your File...If there are an DV Codecs you want to try then message me with your e-mail and I"ll send you a couple DV codecs or send you links to download some DV Codecs....Cheers
