hi dont know if im in the right place to ask this question but here it is, i am trying to encode some of my avi files to mpegs using TMPGenc the problem is everything i try to re encode that began as a widescreen avi ends up as a fullscreen mpeg so it is all streched out and all the people in the movies are all tall and skinny, i tried every available aspect ratio but the resulting movie was the same everytime. any ideas thanks
On the Setup tab, select NTSC 720x480 4:3 output. On the Advanced tab, set source to 1:1 VGA, Keep aspect ratio 2.
i know i may sound a lil stupid but where do i find the output type so as i can set it to 4:3 all i could find was the source type which is default set to 1:1 vga, i couldnt find the output type using the wizard or in the expert settings. sorry i should have added that i want to create an mpeg1 vcd, the aspect ratios will change to 720 x 480 if i create an mpeg 2 dvd but this greates a file to large to fit onto a cd-r. the output size is grayed out on the setup wizard and keeps to its default size.
You didn't specify VCD... Use the wizard to generate everything, then click on the EXPERT settings button, go to the Advanced tab, and set source as 1:1 VGA, and KEEP ASPECT RATIO 2. A VCD has a fixed bitrate of 1150kbps. If the video is more than 80 minutes, it won't fit. Period. Make an SVCD instead.
thanks got it, i plan on splitting the movie in 2 to make it fit onto 2 discs i recently found that my standalone dvd player would play mpeg1 files so i thought this method might save me some cash instead of buying hundreds of dvd's, thanks again
If you're going to do 2 disks, you should definitely do SVCD (if your player supports it). Better quality. If you have a DVD burner, you can burn dvdr's cheaper than cdr's. I know the disks cost more, but you can fit 6 VCD's on one DVDR, or about 3 full length movies in SVCD, or you can use KDVD templates and get up to 16 hours per dvdr.
