newbie (sorry) anyway, i cant get TMPGEnc to encode. i have closed all the other programs running - uninstalled then reinstalled latest version, but whenever i try to load up my video file i get the hour glass forever...task manager shows program not responding - this happens if i use the start up wizard or not.....any ideas please? thanks in advance..
Hi soxenme, this can happen with certain types of media files, of particular note are: MPEG2 files with malformed GOP structures and/or ridiculously high bitrates and/or extremely large files. DivX files encoded with rare codecs. XviD files with rare codecs. Some "tweaked" AVI's using non-microsoft codecs. etc.etc. Sometimes the system will sort itself out within 10 minutes or so, sometimes it wont. ffdshow codec pack can assist with some of the odd files. hope this was of some help. drchips I am experiencing a similar problem when encoding an avi file captured using the HUFFYUV codec. The file size is 36GB. Do you think TMPGEnc Plus cannot handle this codec or file size?
Hiya mmoorecan, The file size is not a problem for TMPGEnc 2.5 as the program deals with the film a frame at a time (simplified explanation). The HUFFYUV codec can be used, but ONLY in RGB mode, YUV mode causes problems, some have managed to get it to work but most people have problems. Have Fun...

drchips That would explain it then. I was using YUV as I understand it to be the best, better than RGB. Can you reccomend the best or alternative codec available that would work with TMPGEnc? What I I did a straight AVI capture (uncompressed)? Would the quality be as good if not better that HUFFYUV? I would think yes with it eating up a great deal off HDD space. What are your thoughts?
An uncompressed capture would indeed eat up hard-drive space, but it is temporary, as once encoded to MPEG (at a satifactory quality) the LARGE avi can be deleted. Have Fun...
dr chips I just wanted to update this post. I tried to encode the same avi file (huffyuv codec) and noticed that although TMPGEnc appears to be "not responding" it is simply crawling along. It took just over 2 hours for it to finish "Judging Field Order" on 2hr avi file. Encoding at 2 pass vbr ~bitrate 5000kbps with 384kbps audio took 7 hours. Not bad I supposed but I would have though with my machine I would have seen better performance. Any suggestions? I've stopped all non essntial services running in WinXp and ran a defrag on the HDD. AMD XP3200 ASUS A7NX 1gb Corsair Twin DDR 400 3 120gb seagate barracuda hdd pioneer a06 Does anyone else have any suggestions?
