Hi, i'm a newbie to this! TMPGEnc Plus won't load .avi file (DivX), says it can't open or is unsupported. Have loaded ffdshow, still no joy. have tried a series of files (all from same source) and none will open. any suggestions? It seems a not uncommon problem. is it just that avi files differ, or are all convertible - in theory at least? any help appreciated.
I never used FFDShow, but I've read you need to enable its Xvid encoding. The easiest way I use and I suggest to everyone: forget FFDShow and install the DivX (freeware, to decode DivX only) and Xvid (freeware) codecs.
I actually think FFDShow is a Great decoder as it not only replaced your DivX and XviD Codecs but pretty much every other Codec you can think of.... Well anyways if you can View the XviD file on your PC with Say Media player or some other Player then your problem isn"t Codec related so you probably need to adjust the VFAPI Plugin priorities in Tmpgenc... Try this , Go to "Options" to "Enviromental Settings" to "VFAPI Plugins" and Raise the "Direct Show Multi-Media File Reader" to "2" and that should get Tmpgenc to load your File.... You should also make sure that the Audio in your AVI file has been decompressed because most AVI files you download off of the Net Have VBR MP3 audio and Tmpgenc can not handle this Format so it must be decompressed so Tmpgenc can read it..... Thanks for the help so far. Got the file (with VBR audio) read by TMPGEnc, by enabling the VFW codecs in ffdshow. Tried to convert and got the same problems I've been having using DivXtoDVD, in that the audio is out of sync. Tried to load the same file with decompressed video, and TMPGEnc wouldn't do it. Got the message about can not open or not supported.
You don"t decompress the Video you decompress the audio... Tmpgenc and any Program should be able to read the Decompressed audio in the AVI file because you do not need any Type of Decoder or Codec to read Uncompressed audio because it is Not Compressed useing a Codec.... Try going into the FFDShow Audio settings and at the Bottom of the List it should say "Uncompressed" and set that to "All Supported" and you might also want to set "LPCM" to Supported..... If you still have Problems getting Tmpgenc to read the File you could allways use "Virtual-Dub" to framserve the File to Tmpgenc... If you need Instructions on Frameserveing with V-Dub then Let me Know..... Cheers
Thanks, Minion. Sorry, I meant audio not video. Have set LPCM to 'enabled' in ffdshow Audio config (Uncompressed was already set to 'All supported'). TMPGEnc still won't open the file. I have no idea how to Frameserve, so, yes, instructions would be v handy, thanks. curious that a v similar file converted OK. the only diff (found by comparing the two in G Spot) was that the 'good' one had audio coded by LAME 3.95, the 'bad' one said nothing about what it was encoded by. Dunno if this is significant, but it's the only diff I could see between the two. cheers
Well If you can Get Virtual-Dub to read this File properly then you should be able to frameserve the File to Tmpgenc to encode.... To Frameserve you must First Install the Frameserver so to do this go into the V-Dub Folder and double click the "AuxSetup.exe" file and click "Install handler" and then click "OK".... Now run V-Dub and Load your AVI file into it and then go to "File" to "Start Frameserver" and then click "Start" and then give the Frameserver File a Name and save it with a ".vdr" extention, after you have saved the Frameserver file you can Run Tmpgenc and Load the Frameserver file into Tmpgenc and encode it like you would encode any AVI file..... Hopefull this should work But if not then i can only suggest that you Try a Different Mpeg encoder Like Possibly the "MainConcept Encoder" or "Canopus Procoder" both of Which are very Good Quality Mpeg encoders But MainConcept is MUCH faster..... I installed Frameserve as described, then ran it, but it seems to stall and the frame counts in the dialog box remains at zero. How long should this process take? I can then hit 'Stop Frameserve' and it does, so the prog is obviously not frozen completely, but seems totally inactive. Any clues? Cheers
Indeed! I've switched to MainConcept and it's very good... Canopus is also a good choice but mainconcept is way much faster...
After you have Saved the Frameserver file you are supposed to load the Frameserver file into an encoder Like Tmpgenc and encode it like you would any AVI File.....
Thanks, Minion, I will try again. I have also tried MainConcept Encoder, which seems very fast, but I ended up with no audio at all on the files I tried, even though G SPot reports the files as OK! This whole encoding to DVD seems to be somewhat hit and miss!
Did you decompress the audio in your AVI file before encodeing it with MainConcept?? Because you should allways decompress the audio in your AVI files before encodeing because if these are Downloaded AVI files then they Most Likely have VBR MP3 audio which will either go out of Sync after encodeing or it will just not even be there so it is allways a good idea to decompress the audio before encodeing if you want to have a Trouble Free encodeing session... If you PM me with your e-mail address I can send you a Little Tool that will decompress the audio in your AVI file for you so you don"t have a Problem Like this again.... Cheers
