tones of blank space at the end of an encoded file

    once i use tmpgenc to encode my avi file, i come up with a much larger file, but the last two movies i'v tried to encode, have resulted in hours of blank space at the end of the file. Anyone have any insight to this? can i stop the encodign process once the movie ends, and the blank space is running?
