If performance is your number 1 criterion, then go Plextor. ($125ish)
If price is your number 1 criterion then consider NEC, BENQ, or LG ($50ish)

I can't tell you which to get. But I would go for the Plextor, the 712 is not the newest model, and it's only $13 more than the Samsung. But hey it's your money. I have the Plextor 716 and love it, paid alot more than $63

I have a Plextor PX-716A. I love it. I spent wayyyy too much time and money on other junk drives and media. 527 Burns and 3 coasters in 4 months.

i didnt get the plextor cause i looked closely and it was over at like 530 pacific time they just hadnt taken down the deal

i know some about dvd burners now
my friend just got one that was dual layer and lightscribe....umm what is that? He payed roughly 100 bucks for his, but im not sure what kind it is

purpose of me gettin them is to backup dvds and ps2 games so do i need the dual layer and lightscribe?

Almost all new burners come dual layer nowadays. As far as lighscribe, that is not a necessity but a preference. Lightscribe is the ability to burn a disk on one side, flip it over, and burn a label on the other side of special printable disks. So it has nothing to do with what you are backing up..

    Hope this anwered your question

Does anyone here have experience with the lightscribe drives? I was considering adding it to my PC but haven't heard much from anyone who actually has one.
