It says it will play dvd-r, burned one on my standalone reciever on a memorex dvd-r and it wont reconize it. Could it be the media brand? Thanks Michael

It could be the media (I've never used memorex) so that it is worth a try to pick up a Ritek or another brand and trying it out.

However, it could also be your burn method -> some players don't like (for instance) DVD-Rs burned with Nero. Try using RecordNowMax (it has a free 30-day trial) as this program is pretty widely acknowledged as producing the most compatable DVDs.
    Good luck

Hornnumb2, There may be a problem with the way your desktop recorder is setting up the things you are recording. Store bought DVDs have a certain type of file system and the way they are setup in order to play right. This file system is why burning backups of movies is somewhat tricky. If the file aren't right, they won't play. I don't have your type of recorder but I'll bet its not burning the proper file system. Jerry
