    Hello folks,

I'm new to the boards and have found your website very informative but also a bit overwhelming.

I'm a computer dolt, I have very little experience but can plod my through things if pointed in the right direction.

    [bold]WHAT I WANT TO DO[/bold]
    - I want to convert several AVI files to DVD files (both audio AND video)
    - I want to take those files and burn them onto DVD so I can play it in the DVD player downstairs.

    [bold]PROBLEMS I AM HAVING[/bold]
    - I cannot get TMPGenc to convert audio from the AVI files. It will do the video fine (which I can then import into DVDIt 6.0) but it won't do any kind of audio.

I want to be able to put 2-3 files or episodes onto one DVD so I need to keep the video bitrate down, I know that much but how do I get audio added?

    - Do I need to strip the audio from the AVI as well?

    - If so how do I do this (ie: what software is needed)?

    - Will DVDIt then allow me to have a VIDEO and an AUDIO file to combined into DVD format at the same time?

Using TMPGen and DVDIt 6.0 how can I accomplish these goals?

    Enlighten me oh wise ones.

    Regards,
    M

    Dear OverKills,

You may want to begin by doing things the simple way: Use VSO DivxToDvd (free version) to convert the avis into dvd compliant format, then burn with Nero:

    http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm

With VSO, you can add several avis at one time before converting. If the resultant files are beyond what one dvd can hold, Nero can compress to fit. There would be no significant quality loss if the compression ratio is small (e.g. within 20%).

The more complicated methods can wait.

    Happy DVD authoring!

Yeah but then how do I add 3-4 movies to a DVD with nice menus etc?

You see, if I burn a single movie to DVD I will need 90 DVD's and cases for the entire series...

The audio on the first DVD I am playing with is AC3

You can use Cucusoft AVI to MPEG, VCD, SVCD, DVD converter to change the AVI files to VCD I would suggest (less size, more movies per disk). Then use TMPGenc to auther your DVD's. http://www.avi-vcd.com/

I just got the TMPGEnc 3 XPRESS version and am trying this...

Does this version handle AC3 audio at all? Like I said I've got the video stuff down pat but can't get the audio to work properly as I think that DVDIT only imports one file (a combined audio video file).

    Thoughts?

VCD? Nawww, I want the nice menus and all that comes with DVD.

TMPGen 3 XPRESS didn't cut it...

    Apparently I had an error...

ERROR CODE 0x80048002 - Invalid Sample Format

Would love to know what that means.

Anyone know what I should try next? I've about exhausted my ideas..

it more or less means theat the format your file is in is not compatible with the program you are using.

Hers a simple way for you to do it:

Vso divx to dvd has already been suggested. You can batch encode at least 5 of your files at one time but the time constraint will be greatly increase.

However if you do 1 at a time thats also alright.

Now that your files are in a compatible and uniform file form (all with similar properties) use tmpgenc dvd author. You will be able to add as many movies as there is disc space. If single layer isnt good enough for you more movies will fit on a dual layered disc and yes tmpgenc dvd author does support that option.Menus are easy as well.See pic below for how to change whether the files are played all at once or if the menu is displayed first.

You can find more info on how to use tmpgenc dvd author in the guides section at the top of the page.

Hrmmm, I have this VSO DivXtoDVD software (version 0.3.1.14) but I didn't think it worked the last time I tried it...

I'll try it again once I get TMPGEnc DVD Author if I can find it.

Right now I'm trying GUI4FFMPEG to see if that works as it seems to be able to handle AC3 audio.

    Any other hints?

The GUI4FF worked BUT made the audio super super fast and there were a couple of errors while it was encoding but I think it skipped over them.

Picture was normal but the audio sounded like it was speed up by at least 10x.

I'm trying DivXtoDVD 1.99 right now to see if that'll work.

    ok DivX2DVD gave me...

    2x IFO Files
    2x BUP Files
    1x COB file

    in the VIDEO_TS directory...

I am assuming this is DVD compliant... now how would I play these to ensure that they work and then add them to a nice DVD with menus etc.

For testing purposes you can use your PC DVDPlayer (my preferred is PowerDVD) and first time burn with a DVDRW...

TMPG DVD Author (already suggested) let's you add nice menus and chapters to your project. Although you should do that BEFORE compiling it (that is the process of creating the video_ts folder).

    Ran into a snag...

Apparently it won't play AC3 audio when previewing your menu in TMPG DVD Author (the TS_VIDEO that you've added into the menu).

Anyone have any idea how to correct this? I have an AC3 CodeC installed already cause thats how I am able to listen to these movies in the first place.

Also, is there a decent guide around here that teaches one how to add features to the TMPEG DVD Author menus and make things a little less clunky. ie: main menu pops up with nice pictures and 4 movies to choose from, selecting a movie and clicking PLAY will simply play the movie and not take you to yet another chapter page etc.

    Sweet...

Found me the AC3 encoder/decoder working in TMPGEnc DVD Author.

I've got it working properly and can hear sound when working with the DVDs that I've burned.

I also see that this program will encode DVD folders that I've already made with DivX2DVD in addition to individual MPG files.

I'll let you know how things are going once I get the DVD burner installed and get a few burns under my belt.

    Hey everyone

I am having a similiar problem to overkills and i was wondering if anyone could help. I have read though this tread and i have done everything i can but i still have a problem. The problem is that i also have episodes i would like to put on dvd with a nice menu but i am unable to because they lose the sound. I will explain what i have done and hopefully someone will be able to help. I have some episodes in avi format, xvid video codec, and Dvm (ac3-digital) audio codec. I converted them using vso DivxtoDvd and i came out with 2x IFO files, 2x BUP files and 1x VOB file. Now ive tried playing the VOB in powerdvd and the video works perfect but the audio is out of sink and then turns into very high pitched voices. I was wondering is then anyway of fixing the audio? Because im just not sure what to do. Also the Vob is 900meg and the orginal avi was only 700 does this matter? And finally i have created a dvd before with divxtodvd and DVDstyler but the only differnce was that the audio was mpeg layer-3 before i converted into a VOB file. So do i need to change the audio from AC3 to Mpeg layer-3?

    Thanks
    Yoshi2
