hey guys i am brand new to the boards and need a little help. i just gt a lite on dvd-+rw drive and am having trouble with things. i have a 2&1\2 hour mpg movie(home mdae, not pirated) that i want to put to dvd. i have about 8 different programs out on my machine by now and i am more confused than ever. i search and found people sayign that you should use TMPGEnc dvd author to conver the mgop to the vob,etc files. when i tryed to do this it said the file was only 48 minutes long and when i went to select the chapters it was missing like the middle of the movie. sonic mydvd came with my burner so if i can use that please let me know. also i was wondering that if i do use TMPGEnc to conver to vob files. do i have to sue their menus and chapters. the reason i ask i that nero vision express 2 has some nice menus i like and they can auto detect the chapters. anyway, thanks in advance for the help and please give me all the help you can. thanks a lot. oh by the way if you want to contact me on aim my name is devilman2646

    Hi bro !
here is what i do, it allways work for me :

    1. I use TMPGenc to encode the .avi or .mpeg to a DVD file, the biggest file i tried was 2 hours long.

    2. use TMPG DVD AUTHOR to make the DVD-file into VOB files + make menu + chapters.

    3. burn the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS to DVD-R (4x princo) with NERO 6.0 ultra ed. (in UDF mode).

Thats it ! it always work that way !
..maybe you could try to devide your .MPEG in 2 parts before encoding ? maybe its to big ???

    Regards
    G.

yeah i understand all the steps involved. but when using tmpgenc dvd author it says my movie is only 48 minutes long. and when i look at the movie in the chapter making section it goes from the beginning straight to the end, skipping over the middle of the movie entirley. thats where i need help at.

does the same thing happen if you devide the MPEG in 2 before encoding ?
You can do that with TMPGenc.

Well does the MPEG2 file you encode with TMPEGEnc contains all the movie?
If yes you should try another authoring program (instead of TMPEGEnc DVD Author). If no then you should check your input settings at TMPEGEnc.

Hi pb_xtreme, thanks for using my site. I will have the new site up on my new dedicated server, just after christmas, so expect the best guides site around!

As for your problem, did you encode your mpeg into a DVD compliant mpeg?
If so, what program did you use?

I think the encoding went wrong somewhere and didn't encode all the movie. You should try and encode it again with great atension to what settings you are using.
Then try using TMPGEnc DVD Author again.

    Good luck mate :D

Either TMPGEnc which is really slow, but excellent quality or MainConcept MPEG Encoder which encodes a full movie in under 2 Hrs and has good quality + easier to use.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Encode your mpeg to DVD which will give you a DVD compliant mpeg after the encoding.

    2. Run this into TMPGEnc DVD Author and make your DVD files.

    3. Burn the DVD files using Nero etc.
