Totalmedia mpg to avi error

Has anyone had success converting .mpg files recorded with Totalmedia?
I continually get an error. I have tried Virtualdub and Super without success. There is no indication about the error.
There is something strange about the files, when I play them with Totalmedia the 16:9 ratio is correct but if I play them with anthing else such as Classic or Windows Media they are compressed to 4:3.

 

Are these MPEG transport stream files from a TV card.
You can load the file into MPEG Streamclip then 'File' 'Convert to MPEG..'.
Load the new file into 'Super'.
