Alright, so I bought a new 1TB hard drive that's a fair bit faster than my current one. My current one has about 500 gigs of stuff on it, and I'm less bothered about copying all my stuff onto it, than I am having to install everything again, including windows.

I've read up on some stuff like symantec ghost, but I don't know if it will copy the entire hard drive over, and allow it to function exactly the same as my current one, i.e. booting into windows, all my stuff installed etc, or if it would simply create a kind of image that can only be used with my current HDD.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

go to the hd manufacturer & download disc wizard(seagate) or similar program as i use that to clone drives on customers' machines.
