I have a high-end Inspiron laptop and want to copy all my vhs tapes to my computer and/or DVD. I originally thought of purchasing a DVD Recorder/VHS combo, but the conversion process to AVI format after the transfer may be lengthy. It was recommended that I buy an AverTV Cardbus Notebook TV Tuner/PVR. Any information on this card's reliability or are there any other suggestions for this process? Thanks in advance,
http://www.videohelp.com/capturecards/avermedia-avertv-cardbus/573#comments Inasmuch as some (commercial)VHS tapes use Macrovision and some DVD recorders honour it (to prevent recording). If I was going with a DVD-VCR combo I would make sure that it either ignored Macrovision or the video output could be run through an 'Image Stabilizer' before it went to DVD. The same applies to capture cards;some ignore it, others don't. I use a DVD recorder and record the tape straight to DVD-RW. I can then edit the the disk on the pc and resave to DVD-R.
