I've just started dvd-r burning. I've copied Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Black Hawk Down using CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD. When there is another language on screen being spoken, there should be subtitles but they dont show up. I've tried to leave subtitles in, but to no avail. On the other hand, I copied The Rundown, and there were subtitles.
    Can someone help.

Hey BlueChees, welcome to our forum Buddy,

I've seen that with CloneDVD and CloneDVD 2, these program are really excellent for backing up just movies only, none better if you're spending money except DVD2One :)

    BUT -

If you want to backup the whole thing, try DVD Shrink (FREE). It will allow you to keep whatever you want movie only OR the whole dang thing -

If you have Nero, DVD Shrink will go from start to finish (burned disc) with just 3 mousie clickie thingies -
and If you don't have a seperate burning program, well you can have DVD Shrink save it in an ISO format to your HD (no matter what you do ypu'll have to save it to your HD) and then get DVD Decrypter (FREE) to burn it to disc in ISO format with the same 3 rat's clicks :D)

This way you'll have everything you want -

Iffin ya need more help, stop back and one of us will take ya by the hand and walk ya through it - Okie, Dokie ?

    cheers,

    Pete

    BlueChees,

Nero is an excellent burner and works hand in hand with DVD Shrink :)
Follow this and you'll be good to go :)

Before I start, I create a folder on my Desktop (i.e. All DVD Work) in that, I create a sub-folder with my movie’s name on it (i.e. All DVD Work/Pirates of the Caribbean) that’s where I put my work, where I can always find it later.

When using DVD Shrink, after inserting your DVD, open Shrink, click “Open Disk”. Then, “Select DVD Drive” and click “OK”. After Shrink has opened your disc, anywhere from 30 seconds to 1 ½ minutes you’ll then have a Green bar at the top of the page, that will tell your DVD’s size. It has been adjusted automatically by DVD Shrink to fit on a single DVD - nothing for you to do at all, Kool Huh ? :D)
If you wish to increase the quality of your backup you may simply check off those files you don’t want, I.E. Outer Mongolian or Eastern Himalayan Yak language, Director’s commentary or extra audio files – I keep ACS 2ch or ACS 5.1, that will give you stereo, most of the rest you can trash. When I say increase quality, many times it’s more theoretical, nothing you can really see with the naked eye for the most part.

With that being done, let’s make sure that the box which says “Full Disk” is depressed (No need to cheer it up, it likes being depressed :). When you are ready to go, - -> click “Backup”. When the Backup box opens, under “Target Device” make sure your DVD Burner is listed in the window. Under “Target folder”, make sure the folder you made at the beginning with the movie’s name is there (that way you can always go back and burn another copy in the future). Now click “OK”.
Last step: “STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER !

You'll notice BlueChees that I said nothing about a burner - You told me that you have Nero on your PC - DVD Shrink will search and locate it, fire it up and write your files to your DVD - SO, make sure you've got a disc there - it'll be done in no time -

    Enjoy my friend,

    Cheers,

    Pete

    Pete
I just finished using DVD Shrink. (Before I was able to read your last post. Wow! its got a lot of options. Anyways, i Re-authored and copied just the movie of Finding Nemo (Quaulity was %100). I clicked backup, than an option came up to pick my recorder. I recognized it as Nero. Great! So it encoded no problem, burned no problem. Popped in the DVD in my player the subtitles were automatically enabled. I had to use my remote to disable them. How can I start the dvd with subtitles off, rather than on?
Thanks for the info and your assistance.
    much appreciated

Come on, surely you're kidding me -
Go to setup and select what option you want - If you don't want subs, take them out in re-Author -

Please don't ask me to take you to the bathroom too -

When I do it all for them and their too lazy to do anything at all, it does tick me off -

    Talk about ungrateful -

    Oh Man...allow me...

Quote: "Hey BlueChees, welcome to our forum Buddy"...

Once again(for the umpteenth thousand time) I see Pete kindly give of his time and expertise and jump to the task of helping a newbie out, offering him an alternative method to solve his problem. A very popular method, I might add, that is discussed here several times daily. Quite obviously yet another newbie has blown by the forum rules and has done NO reading or research or experimenting on his own before asking his/her question. Does Pete remind the lazy newbie of this fact? NO, he rolls up his sleeves and once again offers his help.
    Then, Pete...
    Quote 2:
Iffin ya need more help, stop back and one of us will take ya by the hand and walk ya through it - Okie, Dokie ?
    ....offers more help.

[bold]Then[/bold],...instead of pointing the lazy newbie towards the Guides tab wayyyyyy up there at the top of the page, Pete takes it upon himself to handtype detailed, step-by-step directions for using the software, (again for the umpteenth time) and signs it...Enjoy my friend,
    Cheers, Pete

[bold]THEN[/bold]...The newbie comes back and reports everything is now working great! (read Petes help solved his problem)... except oh dear.. he has somehow sat on his remote enabling the subtitles and now instead of no subtitles, (the original problem), those pesky subtitles are running amok.

    Quote:
I had to use my remote to disable them.!!!!

Awwwwww..poor little bluechees...did ya strain yourself there? I and countless others are now using that same exact software flawlessly and no one else has reported that problem. It's on your end. Of course, a simple search would have told you that... but then again, there's that lazy factor.

    And finally then..
Instead of apologizing for your laziness and accepting that indeed you have a responsibility to try to figure a few things out for yourself before whining about it in this forum, you choose to bite the hand that helped you.

    Talk about ignorant.

Don't let this dumbass get ya down Pete ol boy...he ain't worth it.
    ...................... your friend,
    Doohickey ;)

    Some thoughts:

Funny, it seems that I wasn’t so “ignorant” when she needed instructions. But now, since Mommy isn’t around, she actually wanted me to wipe her butt - Ooohh well, guess she’ll just going to go around with smelly pants OR, she just might have to learn to use toilet paper on her own :)

Too bad I was in rehab and couldn’t read her original post - it would have been interesting to see what kind of mouth the little girl had.

Thanks for the replies you posted, Doohickey an you too Jimbo, it’s good to have friends who stick up for you when you're not around :p)

Just a note guys, when little girls are maturing into teenagers, that adolescent period (12 to 13 year olds), they are apt to throw temper tantrums when they’re not handed every little thing - she may very well turn out to become a well mannered young lady, given some time to mature -

Chalk up her reaction to her unbalanced hormones -
