I have for the last week been attempting (and failing) to copy a few DVDs. On my first attempt, I used DVD decrypter (after reading the guide) to rip Superman Returns. When I tried to use DVD Shrink (after reading the guide) it failed during analyzation at about 31% every time giving a cyclic redundancy check error. For superman, however, there was a point in the movie when it froze up during watching it, so it's possible that was the issue. I am no longer in possession of that disc, so I can't deny or verify if that is the case. After I failed to succeed with that movie, I did a lot of searching through forums in an attempt to figure out what went wrong. Eventually I downloaded the Ripit4me installer (and read the guide). After trying that program with White Chicks and Pulse, and failing each time when it got to DVD Shrink, even after using the FixVTS, with roughly the same error message (DVD Shrink encountered an error and connot continue.Invalid data in file “C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\DVD Files\VTS_01_4.VOB”), and after further searching of forums, I am at a loss. It would seem that it is not the discs as I cleaned the last two mentioned before attempting the copy. Any assistance would be appreciated.

    FIRST OFF....

im not an expert on this, however, from what i have learned dvd shrink and dvd decryptor both are not updated anymore, so you should look at a new program that is updated called dvd fab decryptor. its possible they arent able to break the encryption of the newer movies like superman returns. on the other side of the issue is the fact that movies like white chicks isnt really that new, so that may not be the issue, it sounds like it is not a program issue entirely. hopefully someone more knowledgeable can answer this one for ya.

Phsico, RipIt4Me should handle all thoses movies fine as long as you are using the latest verison so make sure its updated.

also you may need to update your frimware on your drive/burner ,check here for an update

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

    and a couple guides also

    http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72022

make sure your transcoding on a clean machine (disc cleanup and defragging often) without other programs running in the background

Before I read that last post, I downloaded DVDFab Decrypter out of desperation and tried that. It worked fine on White Chicks and Pulse. I don't get it. As the last post points out, RipIt4Me should have worked (I have the latest version). While DVDFab solved the problem, I still want to understand why the other program didn't. Does anyone have any idea why this may be?

my opinion is it a combination between the programs your using ,your PC being compatible with the programs plus the brand of drive your using to transcode and burn with.

this happens with alot of box systems i see in here. do you have a box system?

i own an highend custom machine and can use any program in pretty much any combo and it will work

I've got a Dell. :( It was either that or nothing (I'm not at the level of building my own yet, and alienware prices are yet above anything economically viable for me). Besides, get a decent graphics card in it, and it's not such a bad machine. It runs games like quake 4 just fine. As for the drive brand, it's a pioneer. I guess that's probably the best explanation I'm going to get. Oh well. Just so long as things work. Thank you, gentlemen.

pioneers are pretty good drives , but i like the

    Plextor
    Lite-On
    BenQ
    NEC

a little better ,being you can't booktype DVD plus R media to DVD-ROM with the pioneers.

also the preloaded programs that come with the Dells HPs etc. conflit with some of the burning software we all use in here

i would unload roxio and use nero

roxio "drag to disc" conflits with many burning programs and can def. cause problems

or if you have roxio and nero loaded on your machine they can conflit, nero INCD will conflit with roxio drag to disc

i can help you out with nero if you want PM me !!

AnyDVD is the best I've used. You mentioned Pulse. I backed that up with AnyDVD and DVDShrink no problem. ANYDVD is worth the money..and its always updated with the full version.

I'd rather go with the free rout as funds are running a little low.
