After you install MPT (Mobile phone tools)You will have a generic version of the motorola model on your mobile phone tools that says initializing right?

click on the phone where the menu button is.

    click setup

    go to general setup

    click the communications tab

    click change modem button

    click next

make sure motorola usb modem is highlighted

    click next

    click next again

Wait for it to be detected

    click next again

make sure mototola gsm is highlighted on left

then make sure your phone model is highlighted on right

    click next

    click finish

    click ok

It will say initializing for about 30 seconds (depending on how fast your computer is) and it should detect. then your ready to go. if this works (hopefully) keep a copy of it, because you might have to do like i have to do and do it every once in a while. It took me days to figure this out...good luck hope it works for you all.

I did that and mine still does not work... while finding the modem it says that the modem is "already being used" by something else & it cannot detect it. I selected GSM and the phone type but it still says "initializing..." indefinitely. The strangest part? I installed phonetools last night and it was fine. So I guess, how do I remove the outside influences that are "using" the modem?

You might have to delete everything and reinstall everything. i had to do this about 3 times. but make sure you do not hook your phone up to the computer until you install everything and it asks you to plug in your phone on mobile phone tools. thats the problem I had anyway. good luck.

i have reinstalled several times. are there special drivers i need? when i look in device manager there is a yellow ? next to the usb port for the phone. does this have something to do with the problem?

is my phone (i530) supported by the program? when i go to the website my phone isn't listed.

ok i am in device configuration and i am being asked for the device manufacturer. Is the i530 a Motorola CDMA, GSM, or TDMA. I have looked through all of the device models ounder the above manufacturers and none list my phone, however, all have generic catagories. which one do i select?

if it is a newer phone it would probably be gsm network. There was a thread on here about someone having the same problem. their phone was not on the list, they used another model, but I am not much help, because I cannot remember which one. if I find it I will post it for you. sorry I could not help you... good luck.

I'm not really sure. I have done several searches on google for your type of phone to see if there were and I couldnt come up with any information. Sorry. There might be someone out there with a little more experience that could help you. try the main motorola thread they add stuff new daily. they have alot of really smart phone people on that thread. good luck.

The problem I was having was when starting the program it didn't want to find my bluetooth device I had plugged into my laptop. I tried everything including uninstalling and reinstalling. What finally worked for me was cancelling the bluetooth detection and let the program show me the generic phone and on that generic phone I did the following:
click on the phone where the menu button is.

    click setup

    go to general setup

    click the communications tab

    click change modem button

    check Exclusive Use

    click next

make sure motorola usb modem is highlighted

    click next

don't know if it helped or not but made my phone discoveralbe

    click next again

Wait for it to be detected

my phone modem was discovered and everything seemed to work OK.
