I've been shopping around for a little while now, and need some help. I want to build a PC that plays games like HL2, WoW, and Doom 3. I am trying to keep my cost down, and don't know the major differences when it comes to things like RAM and video cards. The card I'm thinking about buying is a SAPPHIRE 100110 Radeon X300SE, PCI-E 256mb, 128 bit... it's pretty cheap ($57), making me wonder what the major difference is with the more expensive ones..... as for memory, I am looking to get 2gb, and have seen 1gb sticks on pricewatch.com for as low as $100, but as high as $400, what's the difference between these? I'm not a newbie when it comes to this stuff, but am seriously out of the loop (my last PC was a P2 400 128mb ram, 32mb voodoo2 card), and am using a 2.2 celeron Dell Inspirion 1100 laptop for the time being.... can anyone help me out?
get 1gig of ram preferibly 512meg x2 so can use save ram money to get a better videocard than the SAPPHIRE 100110 Radeon X300SE, PCI-E 256mb, 128 bit as i think the se version is a bastardized version of the Radeon X300. go with an amd 939 socket cpu & an asus socket 939 motherboard
Hi gabrius, you'll be able to play those games with that card but they won't play great.... a friend of mine has the X300 in his machine and it was on par with my old BFG 5200 they both scored well under 2000 in 3D mark 03 , you would be better off spending a bit more on you card if you want to play those games and enjoy them, imo go for something like the 9800pro or 6600GT a bit more expensive but your games will be that much more playable ,as dpp said AMD 64 is the way to go for a cpu
ok I re-spec'ed my PC... this is what I'm ordering: Asus P4P800SE 865PE P4 800FSB Skt478 DDR ATX Motherboard Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor Prescott 3.2GHz, 800MHz FSB, Socket 478, 1MB Cache 2X Corsair VS1GB400C3 1GB DDR400 PC3200 Leadtek A400 GT TDH Geforce 6800GT 256MB GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card Western Digital Caviar RE WD2500SD 250GB Serial ATA Antec Performance II Series SX1040BII Soho File Server Case Pioneer DVR109BK 16X Dual Layer DVD±RW Liteon SOHD-16P9S 16X IDE DVD-ROM Drive -so the question is, how does this one sound to you guys?
I would recomment to get A motherbord with DDR2 expample Asus P5GDC-Deluxe i915 Chipset , for the Ram get Corsair XMS PRO PC 3200 They run about $190 Note: the Corsair XMS PRO has heat sink where it cool it. I had this on my system and it I am doing hardcore stuff on it.
