I'm fairly new to this so just had a new dvd drive added which came bundled with Nero vision 6 software. All l want to do is burn an avi file from my F:disk to a dvd. God it's so damn complicated! Have checked a few previous messages on the site which says go into vision express, create dvd etc... but when l enter the source of the avi file, (drive F) it says unable to insert. Another message cropped up from somewhere to ask me to upgrade and pay for the privilege.
I'm getting a little confused with Nero. All l want to do is to burn avi files on hard disk to a dvd. Should l stick with this or is there a better program out there

You said enter the source of the avi which is drive F. Well, you have to find the avi file itself, not just click on drive f.

    ...that help?

Edit: If not, follow gwendolin's advice about the guides.

Blimmin eck that was quick. Thank you.
Ripper - The unable to insert message came up after clicking on the actual filename so l'll check out Gwendolin's guides.
Thanks again for the quick response. Amazing!!

Ok, well use the guides and if you still have problems get back to us in this thread. Just out of interest, was the "unable to insert" message only appearing for this Avi file, or all avis?

And yeah, we have speedy fingers here @ aD. ;-)

Does this avi file play through fine with Windows Media Player or VLC Media PLayer etc?

Ok all, slow them fingers down! On some other files it says - Due to patent licence restrictions mpeg4 decoding is not available. Please upgrade online.
So therefore on some files l get this message and on others it just doesn't recognise the file on the F disk.
    Hope this helps

Hmmm that's strange, It looks like you need the full Nero Suite to burn the avis... Im sure you can do it with just the trial/OEM versions...

/me pokes Gwendolin, is that right?

Can you post a screenshot of the message for us please.
If you don't know how, then on your keyboards, press the Prnt Scrn button and then go to Paint and press crtl+v. Now save that image file and upload it to http://www.photobucket.com or similar.

Sorry for delay. Have given up with Nero and have found VSO Divx to DVD and Copy to DVD. Copies the avi files with just one click of the button, which makes life a lot easier.
    Thanks for all your replies

Well I tried both programs and both give me problems. I am having the same problem as him and if I try the VSO program it makes the video all screwy. Before, Nero used to just unsync video/audio NOW it's not even letting me add video files. Somebody please help...

BTW, GWEN, those guides do not help for our problem. You keep posting them but they don't fix the problem we are having. We get an error when we try to add a file to the burn project list, the guide you have is simple, and anybody should be able to get that part. Nobody has helped me yet on this problem and nobody seems to have an answer, PLEASE somebody help out here...

I have had this problem "unable to insert...", and I have solved it converting the AVI to WMV with another program, and then burning the WMV with NeroVision.

To convert the AVIs, I have used CinemaForge (freeware).

I think this happens because not all AVIs are the same (AVI is a "container" format that can contain different things). Nero can process some of them and not others.
