What is the Extention of your Mpeg-4 file (The last 3 letters after the Dot at the end of the File Name)...

As Most Mpeg-4 formats Like DivX and XviD are allready in the AVI Container Format and some have a MP4 extention which are usually Quicktime Mpeg-4 files.....

There are many programs that can convert Quicktime MP4 to AVI Like "RiverPast video cleaner" or "AVS Video converter" or "Canopus Procoder" also most editing programs Like "Adobe Premier Pro" and "Vegas Video 6" can do it and I also think if you have the Retail version of the "Quicktime Pro v6.0/7.0" you can use it to convert the Mp4 file to AVI.....

    Cheers

mp4 is the offical MPEG-4 container and is not specific to QuickTime. That is just one implimentation.

It is possible to remux an mp4 to avi, no need to convert although I wouldn't recommend it. You can demux the streams using mp4box, mp4creator, etc. If the mp4 file uses aac audio then you need to use AVIMuxGUI to mux it since as far as I know it is the only app that can mux aac into avi's.
