    I purchased macosx 14.4 tiger

I errased the hdd with mac journel. I then selected the hard drive as the volume to install. Installation was successful. When i try to boot the mac, all i see is a pointer, and the rest of the screen is black? What is my problem? :S

    I have a intel p4 ht
I have a built in intel intergrated graphics card

If you need more info just ask

because you are trying to put tiger onto a non apple machine.
and it would be Mac OS 10.4: Tiger

Exactly, there is a chip on the motherboards of all MacIntels that allows the installation of OSX on the x86 architecture.

Apple is thought to have done this for 2 reasons.
    1. So that people who want OSX have to buy the hardware from apple as well ($$$)
    2. So that OSX would always be running on good quality hardware- apple didn't want the reputation of it's stable OS being ruined by dodgy motherboards and the like.

Yeah, something like that. You either need to get a mac, or get a copy of the developers version of OSX which is illegal and impossible because you are not a developer.
