I see people sharing files online that have the video file with an image file to burn svcd and/or kvcd. Does anyone know how they do this?

I don"t Understand what you Mean...

Do you want to Share Files on Line?? Or do you want to Create a SVCD/VCD Image File?? Or do you want to Burn an Image??

Well first you have to have your Files in SVCD/VCD Format and then you can use something like Nero and Burn the SVCD to the Nero Virtual Drive and then use nero to save the Image as an .nrg Image File...

You could also use something like "ISO Buster" or "Magic ISO" to Create the Images...It is really easy when the SVCD/VCD"s are allready Burned to CD-R then you can easilly Rip the Image to your HD useing ISO Buster...
You can also use "VCDEasy" and "VCDGear" to Create Bin/Cue Images from your SVCD/VCD Mpeg files and then easilly convert the Bin/Cue to any other Image Format useing ISO Buster......

    Cheers

wut can i use to convert it to svcd or vcd. Everytime I try using nero it tells me it can'tm open the file type. The really confusing thing is that the file type is AVI.

Well there are lots of programs that can convert AVI files to Mpeg-1/2/VCD/SVCD Format.....

Maybe Try "Tmpgenc" as it is One of the Better encoders that has a 30 day free demo....
You should also make sure you have the Correct codecs installed for the Type of File you are encodeing and if this is a Downloaded AVI file then you should also decompress the audio in your AVI file before you encode ot to VCD/SVCD Format because the audio in your AVI Could be of a Format that is Not Supported by Many encoders....

If you run your AVI file through this Tool first before you encode it then it will decompress the audio for you and make sure you don"t have audio problems when you try to encode your AVI file...

    Good Luck

You might also want to lok through the Guides section of this site for a Guide on Makeing VCD/SVCD"s...
