I'm trying to figure out how to get the most out of my PC, or to make it work better. I have a P4 2.8 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, 100 GB HD, ASUS Radeon A9600 Video card. (Let me know if you need other info) Is there anything I can tweak or do to make it play games and such better. Sometimes the games seem to lag, or more commonly the graphics are choppy. We have the graphics settings lowered on the games, but it doesn't always help. I was looking thru my system info, and I noticed it has two ASUS A9600 video cards 'mounted' each with 256mb RAM, why is this, does it mean I actually have 2 diff video cards? Also, when looking at my drivers, I have a driver for an NVIDIA GC loaded, could this cause conflicts? I'm not sure how it got there, but how do I remove it. Also, is it possible to uninstall a driver, to reload it? It seems the comp used to run better, I'm just wondering if it needs revamping. Thanks!
basic optimizing begins in windows perform disk cleanup, defrag, and run chk disc then go to pcpitstop.com and run their full test ts free takes a few minutes it might point out some things for you. Post more info you say two vid cards have you opened up your box to see if there are 2? if what u say is what u have lowering graphics should be needed. Did you buy this pc in retail store or someone built it for you and have you upgraded any of your drivers and software? personally I don't reccomend tweaking cpu and over clocking but just keep everything up to date and keep virus and spyware out....post the info run the tests and get back to us
I am surprised judging by your hardware specs, but certainly if you follow Elliott's advise that ought to help if not solve your problem. I had a thought though which might be a little far-fetched. Less so though, if you built this computer yourself or added hardware to it or had it made by a local shop. Could be that you are having overheating problems if say there is no virus or spyware or hardware conflicts. Just something to think about.
