two questions

    im a noob and have 2 q's what is a crossover cable is it sys link? does xbox have to have a modchip to make backups

    you have to have modded xbox.

    yes you have to mod the Xbox to make back ups, and also have the crossover cable as well.
    Crossover cables are a cable that goes from the Xbox to your eithernet port on your PC or router.
    It is used to transfer (FTP) files from one to the other, like games from the Xbox drive to the PC to make a back up, trainers, programs, dashboards and just about anything else you want to download and put on the Xbox.

    you only need a cross if your using a direct connection between the box and the PC (this includes a switch), if you use a router or hub you can use a patch cable.
