Which video type should I select? Type 1 or type 2? I have used type 1 for almost ever to transfer from my camcorder to PC because someone once told me that if I wanted to use timecode as subtitles (something I usually do) that was the type to use.

    Questions:

    1) Which is the difference between type 1 & type 2?
    2) Can I use type 1 and still get timecode to use as subtitle?

    Thnx

    Check out this page: http://www.digitalvideoclub.com/techinfo/avi.php
It should not make any difference for extracting the timecode. Bottomline is that if you don't use any programs that make use of VFW, just stick to Type-1
Type-1 also has less chance of sync problems between video and audio.

Reading the info from the site you've provided and it says that VirtualDub doesn't allow type-1... mmhh, I always use v-dub for trimming and editing my AVIs... any other tool?

Well if you use VirtualDUB for DV-AVI's you will have to have a third party DV codec installed. Otherwise it will not open DV-AVI's anyway.
If you only use it for very simple operations like trimming, cutting and pasting you could just use Windows Moviemaker. But check out this:

Of course you can do much more with virtualDUB, certainly if you use all the filters that have been developed for it, but I don't know if you do that.

    VirtualDubMod helps?
Which 3rd party are you referring at specifically?

    I don't know.
I don't refer to any specific filters, but the fact that there are so many of them, makes VirtualDUB so popular by many people.
