Just came across my mind so I thought I should ask. Does the media type affect the actual visual quality of a movie? So, if I get generic brand DVD-R and say Ridata or Verbatim DVD-R, and burn the same movie on both of those, will the video quality look different?
It's dependant on how you burn them. With bad media, burning too fast etc can kill the disk. Sometimes with bad media, you can get pixelated ares in the video etc or unplayables disks. But, you can burn onto no name disks and have them play fine at first, but not in 3-6 months, when the data/dye has deteriated. It's best to go with the good stuff. Ie, Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden.
If you manage to burn the same movie on 2 different discs (one cheapo and one high quality) both will look the same, the Video quality will not change. Because DVD is purely digital, even though time could deteriorate data or dye, the only symptoms you will see is pixelation, or skipping but the quality of the video itself will remain intact. But as Ripper said, stay out of trouble and go with the good stuff
ok boys, y not save ur selves the trouble of ordering media on line and geting knock offs and just go down to the store and buy the real thing? ^.~
bad info you have there ,as long as you buy Taiyo Yudens online at supermediastore.com or meritline.com you will never get fakes. anyway i can't get Taiyo Yudens media in this area. Plus buying online theres NO tax and there shipped right to my front door so i save gas plus my very valuable time
I would avoid the 'Value Line', the real deal TY's are $36 /100. http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-r-media.html
MysticE Ive used 800 plus value line Taiyo Yuden DVDs and there perfectly fine you go ahead and pay the higher price but not I this is what SMS says about the valueline What is Taiyo Yuden “Value Line” DVD media? “Value Line” DVDs are made by Taiyo Yuden but don’t meet their high standards for premium DVDs. Then the manufacturer sells them as “Value Line” Are Value Line DVDs made in Japan? Same as premium Taiyo Yuden DVDs, Value Line DVDs are also made in Japan by Taiyo Yuden. What is the media code for Value Line DVD? You may receive DVDs with "TYG02” or “TYG03” codes. Is there any warranty for the Value Line DVDs? SuperMediaStore.com offers 30 Day Satisfaction Guarantee for All Value Line DVDs.
Seems odd to talk about 'best' then go with TY's 2nd tier product. Value Line 8X discs are not my cup of tea as I like to burn at 16X and have found Verbatim -R's superior. I guess if I was in the business of selling copies I might opt for cheap discs too.
MysticE, Taiyo Yuden is the best media for my Plextor drives thats why i use them. the Verbatim are also top notch but i still like the TYs better and never have a problem with the valueline. and DON"T assume what iam doing with my blank media. i burn at 8x as most in here 16x is just to fast for movie files
