Hey all.. Just bought a BenQ 1655 BCDB drive and gotta couple questions if you could. I have 2 drives installed. The BenQ drive set as master and the Lite-On 1693 set as slave. Using the Lit-On drive while burning DVDs the device buffer is staying at max buffer rate, as well as the regular buffer. But, when using the BenQ drive my device buffer fluxuates up and down through out the burn process , but the regular beffer stays at max. I went into the device manager under the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers and looked under the Secondary channel for my drive and see that it shows it set as Ultra DMA 2- Ultra 33, while my Lite-On is set as Ultra DMA 4- Ultra 66.... This is where I am confused. I know I am not an expert or anything but seeing how both drives are on the same cable shouldn't they be both Ultra 66? Is there something that I am missing on this or is this normal? The F/W is BCDB, not sure if that is the newest out or not. Would this slower setting be affecting my burn speeds as well as the burn quality? Is there anything I can do to rectify it or am I worried over nothing? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure about this but I've read somewhere that the BenQ DW1655 doesn't support Ultra DMA4, that's why using this drive is a no go if you want to use it externally...I think...maybe...yeah...
Hi, The BenQ drive does/will support UDMA 4. However there's no f/w support as yet. So UDMA 2 is correct. The UDMA 4 is also correct for the Lite-On. Pioneer & Plextor(own) are also UDMA 4.
