i wasn't sure where to post this so here goes, which do you's think is a better isp aol, bt or tiscali because i am thinking of upgrading my broadband to a 8mb connection and have read some different opinions about each one. So who do you's think is better. Any help would be appreciated.

Stay the hell away from Tiscali - they are the worst UK ISP in my opinion, and I am with them! Trust me...

I'd say BT are the best out of the 3; but some people have had good results with AOL too.

So what is the going rate for both dial up and broadband there in the UK. I visited friends in London last year, and they had dial up. It seemed even slower than dial up in the US. And I think they payed more too, like 25pounds or something, while we pay around 25-20 dollars. (I am just considering the pound and dollar 1:1 for purchases in our own countries, since that is the real cost of products in our own markets.)

It depends how fast connection you want 1-2mb is between £10 and £25 and up to 8mb is between £15 and 30 but most of them is capped for downloads. I'm not sure on how much dial-up costs as it was around £15 per month when i had it.

The Broadband UK market seems to be in upheaval at the moment. I used to pay £17.99 per month for broadband from Wanadoo who got took over by Orange, with me still paying £17.99. Then if you paid £30+ a month with Orange for a phone broadband came bundled for free. I moved to Sky though which is free for a basic package capped at 2Gbs download a month, I think, if you have Sky TV. A BT phone line is needed for this though at £10 per month.

I have had no probs with Sky though the internets full of people who have.

    Regards.

stumbled across this post, and thought i'd have a rant...

most isp's in the u.k suck fish, unless you live in the london area,or have access to cable, they are generally a load of dog muck, and worst of all..slow
most are over priced, over rated, and most of them are capped....this is the 21st century for gods sake, when is the u.k going to open the lines, and give us what we want.....unlimited downloads with super speeds.
i used to be with wanadoo for over downloading,...was downlaoding well 80gb pr month,on a 2gb limit
i am with ukonline now, albeit unlimited, its only 1mb,and costs me 20 squid (£10 in bt's pocket/£10 in ukonline's).then 6 squid on top of that for access to a newsrgoup server
thats the best i can get, giving the amount of downloading i do

i have just switched from bt to cable because i have been getting screwed by bt's fair usage policy.
i was getting a 40gb a month download allowance but as soon as i went over this i was charged £1 a gig as per their fair usage policy, as i use torrents quite a bit 40gig is nothing.
i now use a cable provider and get 4mb speed and unlimited downloads.
i would advise people to check the fair usage policies before choosing a provider( and dont forget uploads count as downloads).
