Do other burning programs recognize the disk?

Create a foler of video files or an image file instead of burning from ULead. Then use ImgBurn to burn the disk.

    http://www.imgburn.com

Use the Build mode if you have a folder of files or the Write mode if you have a disk image.

A couple of possibilities to check. I use UMF 3 which sometimes switches to DVD-9 in Preferences and won't accept DVD-5 and, also, if the blank is faulty in any way, UMF is very picky. Make sure that blank is really blank, too.

Here are some things to try.

Go back to an earlier restore point when you know things worked.

Use Device Manager and uninstall the channel your burner is installed upon under IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers and the DVD burner itself under DVD/CD-ROM Drives. Right click and select Uninstall for both. Upon restart WinXP should reinstall both the channel and the burner.

If you have a desktop burner, install it in another system and see if it works there. If not, it's probably toast. Otherwise, there is something amiss - hardware/software/ or both - on your system.
