Hi Guys & Gals, Here's the problem.I have high-speed internet w/cable ,plus I have a lynksys router(NR-041),and have my home pc connected to the router,I have my PS2 connected through the router, and now,I'm trying to connect another pc to the router, but I get no connection on the pc.I'm showing link lights on everywhere,I've powered down everything from the cable modem all the way back to the pc,router included, ran Network Connection Setup Wizard, booted, rebooted, and rebooted, ipconfig /renew ,all the other routine stuff for setting up and network connection, but still, I get no connection on PC#2.I've even tried several different nic cards in all the other slots and swap them around to every possible configuration, but STILL NO CONNECTION !!!!!!!!!!!!Damnit...Could some of you wizards PLEASE tell me what might be going on.I had no trouble connecting my PC#1 or my PS2.
Have you tried using a different cable from pc-2 to the router? In most cases you need a straight thru cable,so make sure you don't have a cross-over cable instead.
High, and thanks for the quick response. I'm using a straight-through cable,as I made it myself,as I'm in the cabling business.Any more suggestions will again be greatly appreciated. CONFUSED
Alright try this...try opening internet explorer and see what you have...if the nic card is configured correctly you should get a internet connection. Also go into hardware manager and make sure there are no problems with the device.
Thanks boxwrench again for the speedy reply, but I open up IE ,I just get "Page Cannot Be Displayed" When I enable either one of the nic cards,it will show connected for about 3 secs.then go back to disconnected. I'll wait for one more reply, then I'm calling it quits for the night ,it's 3:00a.m. here and I'll sleep on it,man that'll hurt!!!LOL..... Thanks
I am about ready to hit the hay myself,2:20 Chicago time.I'll see what I can "dream" up and check back with you later.
What I would do to make sure, is switch the cables from pc1 to the router and pc2 from the router. Are you getting an IP on PC2? if so, what is the ip and what is the ip of pc1.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^That is one good suggestion(above) Also try bypassing the router...hook up comp.#2 straight to the cable modem. Good luck and Keep us posted.
