Hello! I am a newbie and also quite distracted with two noisy little kids running around, so please be patient with me. ;-) I have recently begun to download movie files from a website I subscribed to (it provides German TV program which is really helpful since we live overseas). The files are all in wmv format and not protected by DRM. I used Nero Vision Express 3 - which came with the Nero 6.6.0.17 (OEM Suite) when I bought our DVD burner - to burn DVDs and everybody was happy... until two days ago when I wanted to add the wmv files to burn a new DVD and I suddenly got the message "unable to insert video file". I then tried with older downloaded backup files which I burned to DVD before, I tried to change the names of the files or moved them into another folder (all hints I got from the search in the forums), I reinstalled Nero etc. Nothing helped. I thought it was a Nero problem but then I tried to burn a DVD first with Cyberlink PowerProducer 2 Gold and after that Cyberlink PowerDirector Express (I never really used them because I feel just comfortable with Nero). Same thing happened when I wanted to add files to the DVD burn project: "unable to insert video file"! So I know it is not a Nero problem but rather mine. Probably something incredible simple and stupid but I just cannot figure it out! I really appreciate your help especially since my boys are nagging for more German children's television DVDs... Thanks & Cheers, Maria
Alot of encoders do not process wmv files. It's basically for avi, mpegs, VOBs. If you want to convert wmv to DVD, try ConvertXtoDVD. It's probably the easiest encoder. You can also try WinAVI Video Converter, which will output your avi to VOB files. Use Nero to burn the VOB files.
Hi! Sorry it took me so long to answer but we were having a family emergency. I received an answer from Nero support but unfortunately it did not help me either. I now downloaded SUPER v2007.build.23 by eRightSoft. I am still checking the forum about this program because I have no idea which settings to use! ;-) But I will try... Here the answer from Nero support for my problem, just in case someone has the same - it might help somebody else: "It is likely that the problem is caused by faulty filter implementation. Go through the following steps to rectify this issue: 1) Rename the folder "Ahead" in folder: C:\Program Files\Common Files\ into "Ahead_2". When reinstalling Nero, the folder "Ahead" will be created again. The Nero's DirectShow filters and Codecs will also be installed and registered again. As soon as the folder "Ahead" is once again created in the directory C:\ Program Files\Common files\ the directory "Ahead_2" can be erased. 2) Erase the contents of the following folder: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ahead\NeroDigital C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ahead\NeroRecode C:\Documents and Settings \"USERNAME"\Application Data\Ahead\NeroVision\NVFACache 3) Make sure that you have your Nero 6 serial number ready. The serial number is structured as follows: 1Axx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. It can be found either on the booklet (in the CD-cover) or on the back of the paper envelope. If Nero is installed on your computer the serial number can be found as follows: a) Open Nero StartSmart and go into Nero ProductCenter by clicking on the "Nero" logo in the top left corner. Click on the index box "Serial Numbers" to view the serial number. b) Alternatively, you can find the serial number in the Registry: Open the "Registry" by - clicking on “Start” in Windows - clicking on “Run” - typing in "regedit" into the field "Open" and verifying with "OK" The serial number is found in the following directory: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ahead\Nero-Burning ROM\info - find the entry “serial6” - double-click on “serial6” - the serial number can be found here 4) The General CleanTool should be used before reinstalling Nero to completely remove all Nero entries from your computer. The General CleanTool can only be implemented if you are logged in as Administrator. Warning: all Nero plug-ins will be removed as well! Download the General-Cleantool from http://www.nero.com/link.php?topic_id=109&gen_id=8 and extract it on the hard drive by using WinZIP or WinRAR. Start the General-Cleantool by double-clicking on the .exe file. Choose > Clean All > Clean > Deinstallation of all Nero products. Restart the PC. All Nero entries in the Registry are erased. 5) Afterwards, reinstall Nero, either directly from your Nero 6 installation CD or by downloading the latest Nero versions from our website: http://www.nero.com/eng/downloads-nero6-update.php Enter your serial number during the installation process. 6) The folder "Ahead" was created again in the directory C:\ \Program Files\Common Files\ Folder "Ahead_2" can now be erased if you haven’t already done so."
